engine switch

Sure that has been done thousands of times! Might well be one of the most common swaps around.

AV8s have been around nearly as long as the flathead V8 has. The conversion is more popular in roadsters & coupes due to there lighter weight for dry lakes racing and just general hot rod jalopies for days long gone by but there have been a fare share of other body types too.

Was the question about how it's done or were you looking for a numbers count, like how many per body style/year?

Here you go, on ebay right now! INSTALLING A FORD FLATHEAD V-8 IN YOUR MODEL "A" FORD Buy it now $6.50. Through the miracle of internet search.

I have a 1947 V8 in my 1928 tudor. Just be wary of the Bishop/Tardel book. It is a fantastic resource, and a must for a first-timer, but do not slavishly copy some of the dimensions, eg: engine mount distance from front crossmember. They are incorrect for some applications.

Yes measure everything your self. The book is more of a process guide.
You also do not have to use the same parts they use. Build it the way you want.

Mike Bishop noted several awshits after the book went to press but it was too late to re-edit. Engine mount location and types of wishbones were two that I know of and Mike did a real nice piece on the Hamb about doing a mod to the 33/34 wishbone that folks might have bought to make it fit with the 32 K-member. The mod actually can help with better caster adjustment than using a stock 32 wishbone but it isn't as easy as just using the 32 wishbone. Lots of useful information there as a guide to doing it yourself.
