Engine stops at stop sign

Open= leaner. Mixture screw is "*** backwards" from some carboonators.

That's true for the idle mixture needle, but I think Richard was speaking about the knob under the gas tank, which will richen the mixture when it's opened by turning it CCW.

My engine slows quite a bit when stopping, but doesn't die unless I hit the brakes hard. I've always driven with my mixture knob closed after the first minute of warm up.
