Don't let "Ol' Ron" see this, he doesn't like test stands. I'm sure glad I had mine after my latest debacle; what a mess and extra work if the engine was in the car!

tubman, thanks for the comments, yes, am sure I went over board but that's me, least that what the wife says

I think 51-Merc's idea is a good one. One modification I would consider would be to attach the diagonal pieces with the front mount in a "hinged" manner, so the whole front part could be folded up and hung on a wall when not in use. (I know I have a lot more wall space than floor space these days.) Between my "Cherry-Picker", test stand, and several regular and storage stands, it's getting kinda crowded in my shop.
The radiator support is in fact fold-able as one complete unit as there is just a single bolt at each joint. Similar to this--

I have a K.R. Wilson stand that I picked up in the early 70's. I was having some machine work done for a '68 440 build that I was doing and the machine shop owner asked me if I had an engine stand to which I replied No. He'd had a fella come in with this KR Wilson stand to have the flathead mount cut off and a 1/2" steel plate welded on in its place and he'd never come back for it. I ended up with it for $40, which is what the charge was for the welding work. I ran the 440 and a 426 Hemi on that stand. I braced the engines with 4X4's. I didn't know until years later when I got into flatheads what I had. So, anyways, an engine can be run on a STURDY engine stand.

The stand did come with the tool tray that slides onto the stand's upright.
