Engine Stalling

This is a problem that I don't see being reported. While driving down the road, this has to do with the engine stalling when I put on the foot break. With the engine idling high rpm, there is no effect. When the rpms are near 600, the engine will stall when I put on the breaks. The stalling occurs for both clutch fully depressed or the ****** in neutral. :confused:
 
I was told that it had to do with the float level (I think that is the correct term) in the carburetor, my car would stall out every time I came to a stop unless I increased the throttle lever.

I had a couple other issues with my carb so I replaced it with a rebuilt from Berts, now I can drive with the throttle level all the way up with no stalls.

I'm a little confused [ normal]. It only stalls while moving ? If sitting still, it doesn't ?

As Mitch said it's common that a low float level can cause that issue.... which I believe is probably the issue. If you truly want to isolate any other electrical issue other than the primary ignition circuit disconnect the light harness from the generator and then try it again... that removes the light switch and tailights out of the picture. It is common that some light switch assemblies can cause issues when in use.

set your float to 5/8 when inverted ( float level in appearance) .
Best of luck.. let us know what cures the problem. Check all battery cables, electrical connections, etc. Poor battery cable connections that move when the brake pedal is applied also cause issues. Ensure no shorts are occuring.

Two things I find when this occurs:

1. float level

2. idle jet blockage by dirt or debree



other things but I find these to be most common
 
I had this problem at one stage. It was caused by a leak in the inlet manifold. Try checking that by spraying Aerostart or similar (known here as "Start Ya *******") around the inlet manifold gasket while the motor is idling and listen for a change.

Mitch, here we go again with different terminology between our two countries. Aerostart is an aerosol can of volatile liquid including ether to get the ******* started.:D

I once bought a CASE of Chevron spray carb cleaner, BUT, an engine WOULDN'T RUN ON IT!--USELESS as **** on a CHICKEN. (chuckle, here)

LOTS of things were changed, Mitch,
Even the float is sideways, so it doesn't BOB like a cork, I "think" they have a power valve of sorts, even. Find exploded views of each & you'll see how different they are.

Thanks, has to laugh, will have to pick up a can of "Start Ya *******" ;)

You can do the same thing with an unlit propane torch. Just don't do it inside the garage.
