Engine removal 36 pickup

Hey guys, I am pulling old engine out of my 36 pickup. I figured that I could just pull the grill and radiator without taking the fenders off and out she'd come....but it seems that I have run into a snag. The tabs on the bottom of the radiator seem to be catching and it appears that I have to take the fenders off. Am I missing something? Any tricks that anyone can share?

I am not familiar with the 36 PU, but I will first say that sure is a nice looking truck. Now for the problem, More bolts to remove, yes, but with the fenders off everything else is easy to get at. Maybe a good time to also check, or rebuild the steering components while its half naked. Got an LB block there ? happy motoring

I would remove the radiator before removing the engine so as to allow more room for the engine to move forward and be lifted out without damaging the radiator or the fiirewall.

If you do this I don't think you will need to remove the fenders.
That's been my experience on a 40 Ford. You have to drain the radiator anyway, so just remove a few more radiator bolts and you're job gets easier.

Thanks. I have had it about 6 weeks. When I bought it, it was supposed to just need a little going over to make it drivable...I bought it sight unseen, so you know how that goes. Fired it up, water in the oil. One thing leads to another. I was aware that it wasnt the original engine, someone had put in a newer 24 stud somewhere along the way. Anyway. I got a 239 that is .040 over that is hopefully going in without too much issue.

I got it. Dumb $ss me. I was trying to pull the grill and radiator out together. Didn't realize the bolt that held the hood ornament on actually kept them from separating.
