engine rebuild

I have been looking to have my engine rebuilt I have looked through all the links for engine restoration on this forum their are a lot of places that can do this work. Can someone recommend who they have used and if you were happy with the work. I would also like to find someone who is local to Ct or the east coast that I could use.

From what read in these forums the last 5 years I would stick with someone that "specialized" in Model A engines. I don't think that a rebuilder that has "rebuilt a few Model A engines" will do you justice. There are 3 or 4 around the country that I would trust (see above).
The top quality restoration shops know who to use.

On the East coast I have used two Schwalms Babbitted Bearings, in Strasburg, PA and Antique Engine Engine in Skokie, IL. Both do excellent work.

Hi Neill,

If you are on the east coast, and if you want to stay close to Connecticut, I would recommend J&M Machine in Southboro, Massachusetts in addition to the fine shops recommended above. John and Mike would be glad to meet with you and show you around as well as to discuss your project with you. You can check them out on their website (google it).

I would highly recommend J&M Machine in Southboro Ma good guys to deal with, good communication, willing to give a fair estimate, emailed me every step of the way pictures included...... My engine is now good for another 80 years!

No experience with J & M but have heard nothing but good, same with Ezold's(?) rte 10, westfield, ma. Both do/used to adv in hemmings.

Paul in CT

By the way I opted to go the extra mile and had them install a Burlington, counterweighted crank, a Stipe cam, and a Brumfield head,...and I must say it was worth the extra J&M will do great work and treat you fairly check out their website

I have used J&M Machine in Southboro, MA to have three of my model A engine's done going back to over 20 years ago, with the latest one done about eight yeas ago. I have been very pleased with their workmanship and attention to detail. They offer a full service rebuild and will communicate with you along the way with detailed photos and emails.

Hi Neillb, I used Connecticut Antique Engine Restoration in North Franklin,CT. George King 860-642-7103. He is a little pricey but gives you a great rebuild.

I had J and M do several motors for me 2 Model a's and a Flatead v-8,
State of the art shop and equipment and top rated quality and expertise!
Love to visit the shop as always rare engines being rebuilt and restored.
Great guys and send pictures of the whole process from beginning to end.

Schwalms Babbitted Bearings, in Strasburg, PA. Call Ora, more than happy with my engine. Made the trip from Metro Detroit.
