Engine ready to install!!

Cape Codder, no problem and as I have learned on this forum, there are no stupid questions! I will keep posting the progress.

What is the circled item?

Yes the shift tower was rebuilt as well. I am also Installing a new water pump, and the generator has about 500 miles on it. It was redone last Winter. The distributor was rebushed and new “guts”, original style. I also had the radiator flushed, as good as they can do with the current environmental regulations. If all goes as planned I should be in old shape to put some miles on next summer. Thinking of driving to the MARC meeting in Gettysburg.

Here’s another update and I have a question. I greased the universal joint cavity and installed the cover. Les Andrew’s book shows the bolts in the flange being installed towards the rear, however there is not enough room to install the bottom bolt that way so I have it facing front. My car is not a Fine Point car but I am curious if the way I have them in the pictures is correct or should they all face the same direction (towards front). I will install the cotter pins shortly.

I noticed that the other day, and thought I always install mine the other way. Honestly it does not really matter.

Making progress…. I have the Starter, battery box and cables, the generator, water pump and fan, along with the distributor and plugs, radiator and shroud, and the biggest pain so far, the hood shelf’s, splash pans. Making progress, hoping to have the motor started by Christmas. Here are some pictures documenting the progress.

KM.. Ora (Schwalms) did my rebuild in 2015, I couldn't be happier with the rebuild, shop environment, and communication before, during and after the build. Still a strong runner today, and his instructions were right on for break-in etc.. kb

Kbinde2, thanks for sharing your experience with the team at Schwalm’s. My experience so far has been similar, most of my discussions have been with Jeff and he has been a pleasure to work with. I am hoping to get things started soon, providing I can get some time which is a bit more difficult around the holidays. The one thing Jeff mentioned to me was to be careful with breaking in the front seal specifically. Even though they lubricate it and soak it in oil before it is installed, you need to make sure you monitor the temperature closely at initial start up. Start for 10-15 seconds and shut down and make sure the pulley is cool insuring there’s oil present so you don’t burnish the seal or it will always leak more than normal. Repeat the brief starting until the seal remains cool and you will have no issues. That was the big thing missing from their instructions.
Katy, the apparatus you are asking about is a hood prop, the kind with the fold out arms.
