I just pulled an 8BA out of a my 47 pickup. It was locked up. I got the heads off, intake, pan, and all but 3 of my pistons. There was only about a cup of water in the oil not mixed and the cylinders have what looks to be like water damage. I have cleaned the surface and have only discovered 2 small cracks between the water jackets at the center bolt holes. I also discoverd mud or clay in 4 cylinders No rust in the pan and all the cylinders are clean the rest of the bore down. Valve valley is super clean. Pulled the mains and rod bearings they are hardly wore with no sign of problems. I had no ridge on the top of cylinder. When I examine the intake manifold I found traces of water damage. When I bought this pickup it had a carb filter on it. I think there was no protection on the carb and that is how the water, mud and or clay got in the cylinders. The guy I got it from said it was rebuilt about 6 years ago and you can see it in how clean the block is. I hope the block is good but it will take a pressure test and a flux to be sure.
My guestion is the pistons that cant be drove down due to hitting the main bearign housings. If i use a hone and clean up the cylinders then i can drive them out he top, the three pistons will move free to the bottom of the block, or am I making a newbie error. I will try to take some pics when I get time.
Any help guys would be thankful.
