Well, things do have a way of changing, let me tell you. If you remember, I had a rod bearing let go and I've been sourcing parts and the like to repair it and get my roadster (avatar) back on the road. It's been a bumpy ride trying to do so and after all is said and done, there may be more wrong with this engine than originally thought.
So, my lovely wife hears about this and she finally just told me to go get another engine and be done with it - forget about fretting over the bad one and fix it "in due time" when the time previals! So, like a good husband, I said, "yes, dear" and quickly made a call. My friend Bill had a 100HP 59AB he just finished on the stand so I brought it home. I'm working on its assembly and a couple other issues that are easier taken care of with the engine out. Here's a question for ya though ...
Oil pumps - I had a rebuilt "long pump" in the engine that had the bearing issue and oil pressure was pretty decent before the problems, even when at hot idle (about 10-15 pounds). But, this pump probably has some shavings in it so I'm going to flush it out really well (but I don't get a "warm fuzzy" doing that or should I worry?). I also have a couple rebuilt "shorty" stock pumps that supposedly put out 80 lbs pressure - is that a better pump? How does that compare to the Mellings and the Speedway oil pumps that are out there? I've heard the high pressure Mellings is good, almost too good - your thoughts please!
