engine pans

I have a 28 engine pan. I Notice that the insert has five holes stamped in it. I thought they didn't have holes until later production. Any help here? Seem I have seen some pictures and facts about this somewhere, but cant seem to locate it right now.

thanks for the information, I checked the restorer and though a good article, it didn't cover what I'm looking for. This pan came off of an engine number matching car. I am working on the engine now. It seems I seen and article somewhere that had drawings of the pans and the approximate years of change. These holes have been stamped at the factory, not added later. The beads all match, so I don't think someone changed to a different dipper tray. Again, thanks for the info. Someone is sure to have what I'm looking for. Jon

Steve,
Did you check with Dudley? He was restoring one or a pair of early early 28 engine pans that had 5 holes, one to fasten the pan to the from crossmember. If you are referring to later 28 pans, I thought they had 4 holes like all the later one did.

I thought Steve was referring to engine SPLASH pans, not oil pan inserts.

Yes Bob, the second picture from the left is what I found in this 28 pan. Sorry about the confusion on the wording pan. I should have said engine oil pan, and dipper tray. So is this dipper tray the correct one for a 28 engine? Thanks for the help. Jon

Checked Vince's site, and the picture of the one he says Mr. Stipe owns, is exactly what I have here. Thanks again guys.

Here is a picture of the oil pan fordfixer sent me, and it's identical to the second dip tray shown in #8 above.

The dip tray in Vince's link is a bit different in that it has a slight depression down the center of the tray.
