Engine paint color help

I've used Specialized Auto Parts Ford Green(M 200) for years, but now I think
it's a little too dark....

I also thought like Craig(19), on the color shade...

Let's cut to the chase,...who has the closest match to pass FP....anybody??

Mike,

Sentry Hardware sells Rustoleum DTM (Direct to Metal) for $12 or $13 a quart.
I mixed several colors together to get the color that I have on my Phaeton engine. I used some Japan drier and VM&P Naptha for thinner.
It dries over night, I brushed it on and it levels out perfectly, even the black on the pan.

Hey Darryl how ya doing ... have not seen or talked to you in a while..

Well I went to Sentry hardware and I got that stare like I got something growing from out of my forehead. I have come to understand that most people that work in this town can care less about customer service and know jack about what they are selling or doing, on a good note I did run into a few people who did know what they was selling and doing. This is why I need to get hot on my education on engine, body and paint work so I dont have to depend on anyone .. much ... .

I am going to go back however, I think I did see johndeer green there, and one gentleman in this post had said he mixed johndeer with black so I'll just mess with it. I will be looking into getting the correct color from a vendor and wait the 2 months to get it up here this way I never have to run into this again, even if I never used it again ill have it..

Not to put a sag in your paint, but do we rationally think that all the plants in the continental US ended up with "exactly" the same color? I'd bet a sidemount that there were variations from one region to another from time to time. The big issue in these decisions is having something to go by. Not many freshly painted original parts around, and worse, no computer screens to accurately filter it so you can get a match. In AK, you'll be really close with whatever you do. I'm pretty sure of it, unless you go all black or something...

Mike,

I can show you what I have mixed up for myself, we could match a sample if need be. I have green and black, I haven't tried any blue as suggested earlier.

By this weekend I am hoping to have the engine and ****** out of my Phaeton, the engine has an oil leak and the transmission jumps out of third gear. You can check out the paint job and color on mine if you like.

Did you ever find the Rustoleum at Sentry? I rarely tell anyone what I am actually doing when I buy parts or supplies, at least until after I am done.

There is that old and possibly true story that Ford wasted nothing and that some paint left over from body painting was recycled into the tanks holding engine paint. The result was a slight variation in the green from day to day. In this scenario, a single engine would have the same color for all components but not all engines would be a perfect match over time. I have heard this many time but do not know if the story is apocryphal.

Ward,...thank you. Maybe I'll try the paint from Nacewicz, just to see how it looks.

Highlander, I'll take that bet,....28-29 works for me. No repops please! All the engines
were painted before assemble, built and checked out, then shipped out.

Yeah, I too would take that bet about different paint shades in regions. All engines were painted at the Rouge, ...but what others do not realize is the falsehood by which these tales about recycling materials (paint, wood crates, etc.) as they apply to the Model-A. When you think about it, 'quality' never comes from adapting something to work. There were too many vehicles being manufactured on a daily basis, ...and the quality of his vehicle has been proven over time simply because his M-Specs were so exacting. There is no quality control in sawing up old shipping crates to become floorboards, or mixing up a bunch of left-over materials to become engine paint.
