Engine on stand question

If I use the 4 legged adapter to mount a model a engine on the stand is the flywheel cover strong enough, with 4 bolts in it, to hold the engine while adjusting bearings? I have the side water jacket mount but it is right over the center main cap bolt.
I have seen them mounted from the rear of the engine but not sure if it was mounted directly to the block or the flywheel cover.
Thanks
Don

The flywheel cover is not strong enough to hold the engine. I cut a notch in the side adaptor I made so it has just enough clearance to get to the center main nut.

I place the engine on a flat bench with short one by two's across the deck surface to protect the open valves and screw a couple of 2x4's into the bench alongside the block to keep the whole thing from turning while torquing the mains.

Don, Use the side mount modified as Tom said . You will find that the engine is much easyier to work on . A big advantage is when you are indicating clutch housing and flywheel for runout, turn so engine has flywheel end up, much easyier to see the indicator (no need to stand on head to read! ) Bubby Sharp in KY
