Engine install, 53 vic

Would it be easier to marry up the engine and fordomatic to reinstall? Or try them one at a time?
Thanks,

Id did it with the transmission bolted to the motor on my 51 Victoria with a Fordomatic...its a heavy cast iron trans...and i dont have a hoist or trans jack

its easier to install both together, but i dont think you have room to do that, engine and trans together are pretty long and have to go in the engine compartment at a step angle,, if the radiator support and hood latch cross brace are removed, and maybe the grill you can do it that way, when i have a lot of work like that to do i remove the whole front clip, fenders and grill as one unit

I installed my engine together with a three-speed plus overdrive. It's not hard, especially if you have one of those "adjustable hoist" deals that lets you change the angle of the engine/trans as you need to. Dropping in both at once sure saved a lot of time and knuckle skin later on.

Ok guys thank you, I do have the front clip, radiator and grill out and I do have the adjustable lift and an overhead hoist. Hoist is supposed to be good for 1200 lbs. so I guess it is a go? Be nice to know what it will all weigh?

Weight for a Flathead is around 525 lbs. trans may go another 100-150 I would think.
your hoist should be good.
Torchie.

I put mine in to my 51 assembled with the rad, hood latch panel and hood removed. I used my cherry picker and an extra set of hands from my Dad.

Good news, it is all in and bolted down. Now I need to replace the yoke seal in the diffential and a drive line to drive it.
Thanks to all replys
