looks like a truck engine from 1938 up to 1941, T on head is a lower compression truck head, number on trans-go to Vanpelts website for approxiamate build date. 01T on trans is 1941 Truck gear box.

81 was the part number for the heads until the 59ab heads came about, look on the top side of the head and you will see that number

What about the "C59A" shown in the fifth picture? I'm no expert on pre-8BA engines, but doesn't that indicate a later block? Maybe a post-war (or possibly wartime) engine with earlier heads?

Thanks for your replies guys, i was going in circles trying to figure it out. I also thought C59A was a latter block.

How do you interpret the number beside the manifold does anyone know?

Cheers

I copied this from somewhere......Mark

if as it appears is a later block with early heads they had to use the KR Wilson tool to releave the heads for the new valve configuration

Yup your right. This New Year I resolve to pay closer attention!?!?!? Happy New Year all!!!!........Mark

It looks like the truck is US built and the engine is Ford Canada built (Later C59A). The VIN indicates right hand drive with the F after the BB18 but the number is different to Canadian format and more like USA.

I would assume the truck was built here in Australia, i maybe wrong though. Definately right hand drive for here. Maybe we had a different numbering system.

My guess is this is Canadian, Export Serial #--or added by
owner or local officials required. Be nice if you could get Serial #
from the truck.
Canadian SN list shows 8/45 (1946model) 6A prefix, 8/46
(1947 model) 7D prefix. Who knows CA SN?

Number stamped on bell housing

BB-18-"F" 6,929,975 This trans was attached to a 221ci engine at
the factory. If that "F" is factory it could mean right hand drive
if Canadian export----but-- that unit SN is after published civilian
America sales ended Feb 10 1942. last 221 eng/trans unit
6,925,898. Seems to be America war produced --ended up as
replacement transmission in Australia.

I'm probably raising more questions than answers!

Still learning interesting.

Not many War time SNs mentioned.

A note on the C59A block is it has the round center water

transfer port like the 39-42 239ci 99 block.

The American 59 block has round center and lower ports.

Neat old Flatheads! Thanks!

I couldn't tell if that was a T or an F in the serial. Vanpelt's site says a T would be a big truck.

"The letter in the prefix indicates the type of vehicle: A = Passenger Car, C = Commercial Vehicle (pickup truck or panel/delivery truck), and T = Truck (large trucks of 1 ton rating or bigger). The number in the prefix indicates the engine type: 18 = regular 85hp V8,"

Hi Gene,

The number on the frame matches the one in the pic stamped on the bell housing, see pic below,

Sorry a little hard to see.

According to the Ford Australia engine serial number records 6D............F is a Model 51A - 59A. Engine type 59T-6011-S. 1946 to 1947 V8 Canadian truck engine. There should be a body number stamped on the left hand side of the firewall under the bonnet-maybe on the side firewall - something like 21W-81xxxxxx and this will help with identifying the year and body. Sorry my knowledge on this new stuff is very limited. Dave

Corey;

My Opinion:

That's the original factory transmission. 1942 truck -- the Serial

numbered 221 "18" engine/trans didn't make the 2/10/42 cut off

for civilian sale in USA so it went to Canada. My opinion.

What SN is on the title?

Does the truck have FMC (USA) manufacturer patent plate on

firewall or FMC of Canada patent plate?

Any evidence that truck was original left hand drive & converted right?

Any military plates on dashboard or military features?

Fun -- thanks! Happy New Year!
