New here and a short story.
After 40 years of trying, I finally was able to purchase 2, 1939 Ford pickups. Most of the parts are there for both. One did not have an engine, but I found one in the barn. I need some help to pin down the year. ID is on top of block at driver side rear.
*RI8 62364MCAL
Machined intake surface
Cast heads
No freeze plugs
Aluminum intake
Vent at lower right pan
Large Sparkplugs
Water pumps in heads

Thanx for your help/comments

The water pumps in the heads says it is 1936 or earlier (there should also be 21 studs on this engine). It could also be a 1937 or '38 engine with water pump block off plates on the front of the block. The engine you want for a '39 has 24 studs.

And the pumps will be in the block and the heads will have center outlets. That serial(?) number may be something assigned by California. It did not come from Ford that way.

This is a preview of the pair of 39's. One has the engine. One does not.
I was particulary trying to figure out if the second engine would be suitable to use. I really do not want to use babbit bearings as they would need to strain to keep up with me. The extra engine looks to b able to run the way it has sat for over 40 years. ie. no soot in exhaust or on the plugs, and clean oil.
Actually there are two 49's sitting right next to mine---Hmmm
