Engine ID number

The engine block I have has 2106910 followed by a star stamped on the top rear, driver's side. The intake manifold would cover the numbers.

Seems to me I have seen mention of this being done sometimes to engines that were reuilt. The numbers being those of the car the engine was going into.

Could someone comment on this for me................

If I read it right the block was installed in a 1948 FORD after being rebuilt.

It has 59 on the bell housing indicating 46-48 manufacture

Thanks

Sounds like a rebuilders number to me. Ford Motor Co. stamped the vehicle ID number on the upper lip of the Transmission. Since most engines would have been rebuilt or replaced before the tranmission.

Anyone else with a thought.
