This is why I am waiting for Terry to finish the New Model A motors. I hear all these horror stories about rebuilt model A motors and just can't bring myself to have the motors that are in my cars rebuilt.![]()
Most of the horror stories are self inflicted.
you can't imagine how many emails we get a week in regard to "How much does it cost for you to do a Model A engine"?
The questions should be:" How are you going to rebuild my Model A engine and what parts do you intend on replacing"? Do you do all of the work in house,do you fix the cracks, what improvements do you recommend,How long does it take?
Many people are consumed with how much does it cost rather than how long will the rebuild last.
I see it play out in this forum as people buy a cheap engine and that's what they get "cheap" spray can rebuild with glass beads left in the engine and JB weld on the outside.
There are still a few good machine shops around but it's best for the customer to inquire/ask pertinent questions about the work 'what gets done ,how, why.
There's a saying I always refer to "An educated consumer is our best customer".
There's great amount of knowledge that goes along with owning and caring for an old car.
