I've seen a lot of pictures of model A engines as well as a few in person. Most commonly I see the famous green, but I've seen red as well, is red a factory thing or just the product of someone with some time and tractor engine paint?

Colors don’t matter for color blindness, gold paint looks sophisticated , ford blue looks like newer models , chevy orange too P off ford only guys and gals, black too hide oil leaks

On one of my first aircraft engine overhauls it had black cylinders with some red to designate chrome cylinders, chromed rocker box covers, chrome push rod covers . My shop foreman and mentor said paint it Lycoming gray every thing :-( I said it would be a shame to cover up the chrome, he said you can do whatever on your own time , I did tape everything off painted the case gray, and polished the chrome . I got praises for the great looking job by shop owner and the aircraft owner :-) ! The shop owner found out that I painted the engine on my own time , he paid me for my after hours work !!

....... chromed rocker box covers, chrome push rod covers .

Like they say "if it don't go chrome it". But polished aluminum is faster.......

Ford used the green clear up to the 95 HP V8. They went dark blue on the 239 engines to tell them apart from the earlier 221. The DIY guys used what ever caught there eye. Hot rods had to look hot so many favored red or orange. In the 50s, Ford sort of got carried away with engine colors.

Allstate replacement Red.

Mine had a "blank" number pad as well. Never numbered never ground off. Allstate apparently buying up Ford excess production.

I've considered returning it to the red color - just as a conversation item.

Hey, it's a history too.

Son this year considered a "remanufactured" Toyota Tacoma replacement engine to place in his 240K 2008 Tacoma. $3800 - which as it turns out is worth more than the rest of the truck with an operable engine.

He just wasn't that excited about the investment. The trucks are nice and "just the right size" for him - but not to be. Carvana will do with it as they will.

Different age than 1936.

OK, guys ............. we have a person that's fairly new to Model A specifics and he's asking for a specific answer. While there was a "close" answer suggesting how long Ford used green engine paint, the right answer is:

The only AUTHENTIC paint for a Model A engine is FORD ENGINE GREEN. While some folks may choose to paint their engine another color, all Model A cars & trucks came from the factory painted FORD ENGINE GREEN. Most all Model A parts vendors have this paint available in either spray can or brush on formula.

I thought he was asking about red. But Ford engine green was on the cars going out the door.

My answer #2 addressed his question.

I'd like to thank both you and Rotorwrench for answering the original question.
Lots of attention deficit inflicted folks on the Barn.

And, of course, its best to paint ALL associated engine parts from the same paint can, or the same paint lot, or at minimum from the same vendor.

The judging standards DO indicate that all associated engine parts should be shade identical. And I have seen variation in the shade of FORD ENGINE GREEN (name on can) from different sources. It would be easy to get a surprise without anticipating it.
