Were the 1926 and 27 engines painted green, or black like all other model years. the reason i ask is my engine in my 26 tudor was painted green when i purchased it but now that the engine is rebuilt i want to make sure it's correct for 26.

Thanks
Scott

There's great confusion and mystery about this. The best guess is that black is correct through 1926. The original coating was Gilsonite. I use a black satin Rustoleum on mine. Here's 1927:

In Walter T. Fishleigh’s files in Acc. 94 at the Ford Archives there is a memo dated July 26, 1926 entitled: “Finish For Model T Motors.” It lists the finish to be put on each of the exposed parts of the motor.

26&27 motors are painted green, Ford went back to colors on the T's in 26&27. My 26 Motor was painted green, same as the A's.
