End of Rod & Custom

Just got the latest Issue of Hot Rod, this, as the cover explains is going to replace my Subscription to R&C.....I don't think so...I am going to return the cover letter to the publishers and decline the Hot Rod "swap" and request a refund for the balance of my subscription. Just the fact that they think substituting Hot Rod for R&C is OK explains a lot of what happened. If anyone thinks Hot Rod could on it's best day could replace R&C they are sadly mistaken. I hope all of those who feel the same as I will do likewise.

Let us know if you get a refund. I doubt that will happen. I've seen magazines just go out of print and fail to substitute anything and you don't get a refund for the remainder of the subscription.

R&C hasn't been the same since Bud Bryan left forty years ago. The printed-magazine business is ugly politics when under a conglomerate masthead. DD

Sorry to hear about your earth shattering dilemma, but I guess I was never smart enough to subscribe to either magazine.

Magazines cater to advertisers, not readers. Every 'tech' article was a giant advertisement, and that goes for pretty much every car magazine out there. Rod and Custom was street rod crap for years until the 'retro' craze kicked back in. They did feature some great cars in recent years, but it didn't really make up for the years of Billet Boyd Coddington type garbage.

Sad to see the name go, but the magazine died a long time ago.

'32,
You are exactly right....nothing wrong with HR but that mag deals with lap
top tuning and valves in heads, how boring. That stuff is so different from what I
consider HOT RODDING it's not even on the same planet.
I contacted Peterson and asked for a refund....to me HR might as well be
Better Homes and Gardens....ain't gonna get no refund !

I was sorry to see American Rodder go a few years ago, they had so many how to articles on old Fords, still use a few of those to this day. Sad day for RC

Thing have changed. What I see is there less guys that twist the wrench and put blood and sweat in their cars. But just write a check to have the work done. Than try to sell it for 150,00 or 200,000. Someone come alongs with the check to buy it.

V8COOPMAN - I just got off the phone with Bud. He says Thank you for the kind words.

Bud and a few other guys like Jim Jacobs were the REAL, hardcore visionaries that re-kindled the revival of the traditional hot rod movement that we enjoy today. Bud's black roadster was miles ahead of anything in the day. DD

Agreed. I just rec'd their HOT ROD substitute and it "accidently" fell into the trash can. No loss!!!!

Yea, they sent me a copy of Street Fodder as a replacement for R&C, opened up the first page and it was covered in billet, no thanks.

Cars & Parst did that to me a few years when they combined 2 or 3 mags. and there was no refunds. I just threw away what was left on my subscription(most of a year) and forgot about them.

I like Car Craft, because some of the articles are interesting. But the days of the junk yard build are over. Put a pinto Mustang FIS in a 52 PU with the aid if one of those mags. Also used a Chebby steering column because it had the best wiring for the directional signals. Now you just buy it. All these vendors went into business because of these articles and good ould American business sense.

Car mags are going the way of the newspapers, out of favor with the new generations. I still believe there would be a paying audience for a quality magazine. Street Rod Builder was one but they, too, went away suddenly. In my opinion, the only one left is The Rodders Journal.

I didn't renew a couple of months ago. Maybe I was the one that pushed them over the edge? Sorry if it's so.
