I am interested in purchasing a trailer (enclosed) to haul a model ACan anyone recemmond a dealer in the midwest ? I would hope to find a dealer in Wi. IL.Iowa or Indiana. Is a 17 or 18 foot long enough? Also what should i look for as to width and height.??I appreciate the advice of those that have been their and done that!!!dshebe@hotmail.com

18' Haulmark thats tall will do it.
Im using a 18' trailler made by Classic Trailers,6'6 ceiling. Bevertail ramp and a 4' side door. Make sure your A can get IN the trailer!
Wick

18' x 8.5' beavertail, requires no "suicide" door on driver's side for an A.
16" OC framing on floor and walls. Double check ramp door height for your vehicle. One-piece roof, torsion axles, 4 wheel electric brakes.
Tow vehicle and hitch capacity?

Model%20A
My Haulmark 18' works just fine. Plenty of rear door clearance for my Tudor.

Check Craigslist.com for your local and maybe even a couple hundred miles around. Lots of folks buy car trailers and then realize that they really don't need one. I've seen lots of bargain prices for trailers with specs just like described in this thread. Might as well help some guy uncrowd his driveway ... and maybe save enough to reward you A with new tires AND take your main squeeze out for a cheeseburger!

I would go to R. A. Adams Enterprizes in Mc Henry Illinois.
Ph 815-385-5970 They are the biggest trailer dealer in Northern Illinois.

My trailer is 20 feet long and an extra foot tall to carry a Model T with the top up. It is about 7' 7" on tjhe inside. I have the spare tire well in the floor, vent, beaver tail, door on each side so you can open the door of the car. The only thing I regret is not getting the electric winch as I have hauled many dead cars and have to push them in. gottta buy one soon,
It is a Wells Cargo and has served me very well.

I just sold my Interstate which had a 16 ft. box and extra height. Since it lived outside the zinc plated screws, the galvanized roof, and anything steel rusted. There are several all aluminum trailer manufacturers (though obviously the axle/spring assembly and tongue have to be steel). I'm looking at a couple in the Trailer Capital of the World (Elkhart, IN) and nearby currently. The other thing I require is screwless for the siding. With the beavertail floor there is plenty of height to clear the door and it keeps the overall height and therefore wind resistance down. This time I'm going with at least 20 ft. to use for other cars.

I use a Forest River CargoMate, it's an insulated inclosed motorcycle trailer with electrical hook ups , interior fluorescent lights/shop outlets . heat and a/c. , rear ramp door and side access . all the wall and floor hooks . I think they make them up in Michigan , mine was made in Georgia , satisfied .

Another thing to think about is what you are going to pull the trailer with and how much weight your going to put in it. Most half ton pick-ups will only pull a combined trailer/load weight of 7000 to 9000 pounds. A 3/4 ton truck will get you up into the 10,000 pound range. You may want to look at all-aluminum trailers if you have a half ton pickup to lighten your load. Tandem axle trailers also can be purchased with 3500 pound axles (total load of 7000 lbs) or 5000 pound axles (10000 lbs load). Then there is the hitch itself on your truck to think about too! I'm just suggesting you do a little research before you buy a trailer as there are lots of options and you don't want to be surprised (or dissapointed) after you make a purchase.!

I bought an all aluminum open trailer last fall from Forest River CargoMate. It was manufactured in Elkhart. They didn't offer a winch mount as an option so they gave me their main aluminum fabricator who made one to my wishes on the spot. He also did some other add-ons. For two hours they charged me an extra $25 which they gave him. After hitching-up I noticed the electrical box interferred with a side jack I wanted and they put two guys on re-routing it. There's more that they did, but the jist of it is I'm way more than satisfied. Obviously, this is one of the contenders for the above mentioned post on my next enclosed trailer.
