I read a post a while back where someone said you can use a 6 volt generator when you change over to 12 volt. I tried to find the post but could not. Can someone enlighten me?
If gen is in good shape, use a 12 volt regulator and polarize. Takes care of charging circuit. If changing to neg grnd at same time, wire on amp meter will have to be switched if it reads backwards.
the generator will put out 12volts with a 12 volt regulator. The regulator dictates the voltage . If your changing from a positive ground to negative you have to change the polarity . good luck
The 6 volt generators are not built to put out 12V. You have two options: to convert your 6V generator you need to swap the field coils to 12V units, or you can get a later 12V generator and swap the pulley, front plate, and rear plate from your 6V unit onto it.
