Not really new, it was part of the new headlight switch replacement kit. :)

I worked as an auto electrician for over 50 years and old Joe Lucas kept us in a job. Lucas equipment was not as bad as what everyone makes out. Spare parts and service information was readily available. Great illustrated workshop manuals were supplied. But the equipment was made to a price. More than can be said fore some european equipment which i will not name for fear of litigation. I always regarded USA equipment as arguably the best and with a long service life, especially AUTOLITE / FORD. Regards, Kevin.

Do you know about the LUCAS Vacuum Cleaner...? It’s the only thing they made that didn't suck!!!:eek::eek:

Looks like a nice E-Type that the can of smoke is sitting on in the photo.

Back in the 60's I would tell people that at night if I was riding my Triumph 650 motorcycle I had to get off and strike a match to see if the headlight was on. The two BSA's I had weren't any better and then I bought a Hardly Ableson and it simply shook itself apart. Finally, I found Honda, I've been riding them ever since. It's still fun to poke fun at Lucas, but they're not the only company that made something that didn't quite meet my expectations.

I worked at a Ford dealer in the early 80's that also had Jaguar as a second line. Thier parts were terrrible. The window switches were all garbage, thin plastic with contact points that fell out of the switch. We sold lots of those at around $200 apiece. Alot of money back then. It's amazing they still supply parts. Here, they'd of gone belly up quickly.

I have both a Ford and an MG. The wiring harnesses are virtually the same as to end fittings etc. I recently had some smoke get out, on the MG, but it was due to a connector that was stretched over a part of the frame ands the exposed connector made ground. (earth to the Brits) I lost the headlight switch and about two feet of wiring. Some on each end of the harness. All fixed now. Byron.

Not many know that Lucas was asked to name the MG to succeed the MGA. They came through with the name Money Grabbing *****, but then shortened that to MGB.

Ricardo, Don't you wish you still had that Triumph? :)
Yes, I wish, but since 1982 I owned just Harleys (1948 74 ci flathead, 1948 74 ci panhead, both sold and still with me 1947 74 ci flathead and 1992 80 ci FXR) Add the 39 coupe build and that is enough entertaiment for now ( If I want to keep my wife too).
