Thanks for all the good ideas and I have decieded to go with Don`s & GM`s setup as the seat riser is close to the battery under the floor....I will use a heavy duty switch....thanks again.

Blucar - Is your ground the positive or the negative post?

Most of the electrical auto experts say that the safest way, before you work on anything engine/electrical related, is to disconnect the ground cable. I assume then, that the ground post on the battery is also the best place to install the disconnect switch? In my case it is the positive terminal.

If you reread my original posting to this topic you will note that I stated that the battery disconnect should be attached to the negative post/cable.

In my case most of my vehicles/vessels they are 12v and are negative ground, my '36 is 8v positive ground, however, the battery disconnect switch is made to go onto the negative ground, therefore that is the post I use.
The negative cable is used for the disconnect because there are electrical systems in many vehicles that are hot all the time, with the switch being on the ground side.. Courtesy lights are the most common, breaking ground eliminates the "parasites", clock, radio memory etc., that can drain the battery.

A word of caution: If there is a possibility that a battery disconnect switch will be used to shut down a vehicle when it is running, a battery top switch is not a good idea. A marine grade switch should be used. A marine grade switch has a non-arcing feature incorporated into the switch, therefore the switch will not throw an arc within, and thereby short out a diode within an alternator.
When welding on a vehicle equipped with an alternator the battery should be disconnected because the welder can throw a reversed current through the alternator and burn out the diodes therein..
