Has anyone on the Forum installed an electric wiper in a Slant Window that will alow the winshield to still open? If so what did you use?

Of course.. all the windshields open when the wiper is installed???? am i missing something in your question?

Keep in mind the mount pattern is different for an original electric than the vacuum wiper. You will have to drill a different hole pattern.

I guess I wasn't clear enough in my original question, my fault. The car is a 160B What I am looking for is a electric wiper that will mount inside the car and still all.ow the winshield to still swing open. All the supplier catalogs that I have looked at state that if used on closed cars the winshield will not swing open

I ma sure they are thinking of the external mounting used for all other closed cars. The issue with the S/W wiper motor is that it needs an extended shaft to pass through the windshield header. I doubt that any of the motors sold by A vendors are set up to work that way. (If you did manage to find one, I don't see how it could interfere with opening the windshield.)

I am in the process of figuring out what to do with my original S/W vacuum motor. The parts look OK, but the piston flap does not seal at all against the inside of the body.

BTW, read this and tremble: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc_pest

This is aftermarket, but they claim that the windshield does operate as designed after their install: (from Sticky above)

My recent purchase of the '28 Tudor, an electric wipe motor assembly was installed, using an 120VAC electrical cord to supply power.

When I tried to open the windshield, it would not. I'm going to look into a little more when I replace weather stripping that goes around the windshield frame.

One thing at I thought about was using a quick disconnect for removal and re-installation of the wiper motor assembly.

I've also thought about seeing if any one would want to swap the electric wipe for a vacuum. I don't have any issue with the vacuum wipers, if I install a reservoir can with it.

That project is a month or two away.

I have an electric wiper that is mounted through the original hole in my 160B. I drilled and notched the end that sticks out to accept an original type arm. You need an electric wiper with the same shaft length as the original wiper. Mine is a 12V unit with a plastic motor housing.

I am in the process of installing an electric wiper on my 160B. I bought it on eBay and it is new and made by Vintique. I know that Mikes Affordable sells them. It has the same length shaft as the vacuum wiper so I'm not anticipating too many problems. I did have to enlarge the hole in the shaft to fit the wiper arm. Also the locking groove for the wiper arm does not appear to be as deep as the one on the vacuum wiper so I may make it slightly deeper. I drilled new holes in the wood header to match the electric wiper hole pattern.

I may be missing something but I don't see any problem with opening the windshield.

4banger, do you have the original vacuum wiper? Brattons has someone that works miracles with them. I tried for weeks to fix mine but could not get it to run. I also rely on rain-ex.

I have an original wiper motor for a 160, and it has the long shaft to mount inside the car. There is no way it could interfere with opening the windshield. It is the outside mounted motor that sometimes interferes with the sun visor, which your car does not have.
