Electric Windshield Motor Question

Happy New Year!

Have read that closed car windshield can't be opened if an electric windshield wiper has been installed. Is that true for the original electric motors or just the aftermarket motors? Thanks.

Paul, that was my interpretation of what I've read but I wasn't sure.

I'd like to find an original electric windshield wiper unit to replace the aftermarket unit on my A. Did a scan in the Swap Meet but didn't spot any....Are these still out there?

They're out there. Ck flea bay, place a WANTED AD in the swap section here on the barn. I thought there was a vendor's, parts directory up top but don't see it now. Good luck.

My electric wiper motor is after market and is mounted on the inside of the windshield.
I am, however, able to crack the window enough to let in a sufficient amount of air, thanks to the installation of a modern spring loaded wiper arm that is flexible enough to allow for this. Actually, my "modern" wiper arm is for a 1959 VW bug and it works
just fine. The wiper motor came from Mike's Affordable in Georgia. Oh, Lordy, I can hear the purists now!

I would says yours is aftermarket, mine is a 29 Fordor with what looks to be original electric and it opes fine.

Not sure I understand? Is your wiper motor mounted to the top of the windshield FRAME as original, so it swings with the windshield, as it's opened?

I think some aftermarket wiper motors are mounted on the outside of the windshield frame, and are too large, and that's why the windhsield can't be opened like it should.

My 29 Tudor has a small aftermarket red plastic motor mounted on the inside top of the frame, and it clears everything fine. I have an original motor to mount on a correct 1929 frame, and will change it when I remove the incorrect 1930 frame from my windshield.

I would call Bert's or check ebay for a correct wiper motor. They aren't real easy to find, nor cheap.

Call John Holland in Valley City, OH. (330) 483-3896. He generally has several completely restored/rebuilt original electric wipers in stock. He also advertizes in Hemmings. His stuff works. I have bought several from him and they are top notch. You can also try Mick Isbell in CA. I don't have his # handy but his ads are in the MARC and MACA mags. I'm not sure if Mick just rebuilds or has units for sale outright. Either way you won't be disappointed:).
