Seem to recall an old school story about not setting up an elec pu8mp to push fuel thru the original manual pump as, if the original pump diaphragm ruptured you would be pumping fuel direct into the oil pan. Any comments?

True story . With todays fuel containing ethanol , it is likely that it will eventually eat through the diaphragm on the original pump .

On my '71 F100, I just blocked off the mechanical pump. Electric pump positioned back next to the fuel tanks. (It had 2)

There is a lot of people here that run an electric through a mechanical fuel pump. A lot of them use it for starting only

I fail to see the love affair that many have with electrical fuel pumps on an otherwise stock fuel system.

when I did my wagon I went with the electric after failure of all three although warrantied I went back to mechanical and never had a problem again.i had an edelbrock 1406 4 bbl , by the way I got the mech. pump from speedway no vaccum ports for wipers ect

When the car is not used for two weeks or so, all the fuel in the carburetor evaporates. I click on the electric fuel pump for about 45 seconds, pump the pedal twice at it starts like it was shut of yesterday. I bought the mechanical pump in the early 2000's, so it must have a compatible diaphragm.
