Electric Fuel Pump

Would someone PLs recommend a good reliable 12 Volt electric fuel pump for my 8BA. I've been through quite a few, failures. THX

Airtex is a large after market manufacturer in the USA. I am very happy with my 6 volt that I put in my 40 flathead for backup only. They also make 12 volt. They are more expensive but worth it. You can buy with attachable filter and it is cylindrical so you can mount up in the frame rails near the tank. God luck

I'm running a Carter and it works great but it sure is noisy. I have it mounted with the rubber insulators, but it still is very noticeable. Are the ones you guys have noisy?

Another vote for the Carter P-4070. Mine is noisy until the motor starts then the motor idle will drown out the sound of the fuel pump.

look at a Carter P 60504 an inline eletric with filter this is a low presure one still needs a reg. have of on 48 Ford with 8ba been there two years works great and is quiet even with the engine off

I had no luck w/pumps from Advance. Have had good service with AirTex pumps which come w/ filter and are easy to mount. Can get them at Auto Zone. I think 12v pump is part number 8012 but could be wrong. Mount it near the gas tank. Good luck. Al

I have read that electric fuel pump should be below the tank for proper operation. Is this true? Mine works good but is located even with the top of the tank. Bob

They're made to "'push" fuel, not "pull" it, so they should be positioned such that fuel will gravity feed into the inlet. Not saying they won't work at all when positioned higher, but their performance may be diminished.

Where do these draw there electric power? Iginiton switch?
Stu

Stu , that is where I ran mine in a stock engine .
I also bought those POS ones from the Advanced Auto , the first on didn't even work and then they gave me another one . That one lasted a month ! I hated them with the clicking sound all the time ! I went back with a stock fuel pump and still runs fine with no problems . That's been 4 years now !
Why aren't you using a stock fuel pump ?

Jim

Yes the electric fuel pumps should be as close to the tank as possibles and a little below the tank in a safe place . I mounted mine on the frame next to the tank until I replaced them with a stock fuel pump .
In my performance engines I have , I use a Holley fuel pump but a much better one that the cheap ones at the local parts store . I also use a regulator and Gage .

40 Dave , I use a 12 volt carter p=4070 low preasure and it is quite, you will need a quality fuel filter on the inlet side, mine is mounted on the frame next to tank,at the eng. use a regulator and a good gage.a source of elect. power is starter switch, you need a safety switch to be installed also. I'm running an original mechanical fuel pump, don't know its history... I got it as part of one of my package-of used-parts deals... Works great, and I carry a spare for good luck, best one from my junk pile... Karl
