electric fan- puller or pusher is better??

installed an electric fan from a taurus in my 47 truck (had to replace stock fan because of aftermarket dist.)
it is a "puller" type, 2 speeds ( in high it pulled a trash bag through the grill!)

looking for some input on "puller" vs "pusher" type fans

i would think that a "puller" may work well , just because when your driving air is getting forced towards the engine and the fan would be doing the same
it would be drawing cooler outside air in, rather than pushing hot air out??

if a "pusher" is better, could i rewire the fan to push? how ?

thanks for any input

i use a 'be cool ' pusher, it works real well with 351 w and aluminum radiator has no shroud, you can order either a puller or a pusher, i went with the be cool as it is an italian fan, it is a bit more complicated than switching a few wires, i think you have to disassemble the body and flip the fan blades. i use this due to space limits. the fan don't care what side of the engine its on, it always should blow with the incoming air.

The blades are pitched for a specified rotation. Reversing the motor without changing the fan will make it less effficient.

If you have room for a regular engine attached fan I would use it, you need a lot of amps to run an electric fan, and if the fan takes a dump you're screwed.

I hate to see cars with pusher fans stuck behind the grille when they're visible on something like a '32 or '34.

Puller fan is more efficient, especially when used with a shroud. I have some pics of a unit I built for a 50 Ford. However as Frank The Plumber suggested a fan belt driven fan works the best and normally wont give you the headache of leaving you side of the road. If I can
find the pics I will post then.

Puller.

And mount it against the core. I see so many that have had a lazy install with a big gap between the fan assy and the core, which is a semi waste of time.

A pusher fan might be the better choice if you have a condensor on which to mount it. The puller is generally my preference for the reasons mentioned---appearance, less air block at speed, etc.

MAINIAC, all of above, a pusher may block some air at highway speed, Frank is right on after market fans, I put one on a friends car for parades he kept his org.eng.fan I just turned the blade over as inst. on box said. Frank is right on reg. eng. fan too. Harold, central coast Ca.
