Electric engine fan

I have this unit installed and I just noticed I have some play in the fan. I can wiggle it a little back and forth. I was wondering if I need to get a new bearing, or hub or what? I thought I heard it making noise on Saturday on my way to a car show.

I like the way it works, and would rather fix it if I can get parts, than to replace the whole assembly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If there is doubt about the bearing condition, I would make an effort to repair them rather than risk a failure and lose a radiator or risk personal injury . I was taught early on (when in doubt DON'T ! ) Preventative Maintenance is safety and the key to fewer break downs.

Are they repairable? Do you have them out where you can see them? I have no idea. Are replacement bearings available somewhere? I totally agree with the "when in doubt DON'T".
Sorry for all the questions.

On my fan assemblies there is a cover over the front center bearing nut, I was thinking about re packing mine before I put them into use, as a preventative measure , the instruction sheet says not to, but after 70 years of sitting unused I am going to try it, The locknut has an indentation into what resembles a groove for a keyway, I plan on drilling the locknut in two and removing the bearings, The way I see it is they are no good unless I can run them and to do so I think a bearing re pack will be in order, whether there are bearings on the shelf to fit them is anybody's guess, it may be necessary to remove and measure , then there may not be a problem that a little grease , new locknut and adjustment wont cure

Thank you Fordestes. I have some wiggle (play) in my fan and probably will replace it. I don't know how much if any play is too much and I don't want to have to worry about it. I was hoping I could find parts to fix it. That's why I was asking all the questions. I like the way it operates. I think you have a good plan.
