Egge Tech articles

Well. I'm confused. In one of his articles he advocates chasing the threads with a tap. He has obviously built many engines and knows what he's talking about. The problem is that most guys posting here and on the Hamb advocate NOT chasing the threads. Who is right?

Don't use a tap, use a thread chaser, a tap will enlarge the hole, a chaser does'nt. you can get a set from sears. or use a stiff wire gun cleaning brush if they are not too dirty.

This is a great article and I hope everyone copies it for refrence whenbuilding or having one built. I and other engine builders have our way to do things that may be differant, but if it works! I don't like to see the caps of roda ground for balancing as this weakens them, and using a tap to clean the threads is fine with me. Not sure who came up with that one. I do remove the top thread of the bolt holes.
I rarely cut the valve springs with a torch, I have differant tools for removing the valves. Every engine builder has his way of doing things, the only wrong way is one that doesn't work.
