Not sure if its appropriate here or not, Customer brought me an Edsel 3:10 9" RE. and said do the brakes, lol, Nice considering there was NONE, nothing but backing plates. "Do you have the parts?" NOPE. That's why I brought it to you, 58 Pacer, There was a 11"x2" bare shoe and a can of springs and emerg. levers that he found in the car. So I can assume that is what was on it. Any sources for drums? Ford/Merc. crossover?
#2 Ford paint these RE's or natural steel?

I think you will find the Ranger and Pacer models are the same as the same year Ford. The Citation and Corsair were more like the Mercury, at least for '58 models.

Have you tried any parts store's that carry Bendix, or Raybestos brake parts. they used to carry drums, and the ones you need may fit several different years and models of Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury's. You need a real parts man, not someone looking something up in the computer at Autozone, O'Rielly's etc. because to most of these guys if the computer says it don't fit your car they are lost. In my case when I went recently to autozone to by an airtex 6 volt electric fuel pump, the guy said what year and make is my car? I tried to explain that my 1951 Merc. never had an electric pump. he could not understand that. just said that they don't have one to fit my car. I finally gave up trying to make the young kid understand and went somewhere else.

I just did a quick check at Rock Auto.com. You'd be surprised how many brake parts they offer for an Edsel. Check it out....

Yes they do, so many its confusing,This one has 4 1/2 BC, 57" wide F2F, Sorry been away had surgery @ the VA, Came to find out that this RE was not in a car when He bought it. so he has no idea what model it came out of. but the gear set is Edsel only so we know that much. Has factory ratio tag.

Since you are starting from scratch you could upgrade,1976 LTD's had 11" X 2.5" brakes on the rear Rockauto shows the drums at $39 each then just get the hardware kits, self adjuster kits and wheel cylinders to match.

Assuming it has axles, you will have 5" BHC pattern which is the same as Mercury. All of the parts are available from NAPA or Rockauto(except drums) but you will have to look under Mercury for many of the parts. As stated above, this was the first year of self adjusting brakes and those parts are also available. This is a Ford 9" rear end and parts are pretty much interchangeable with Ford other than the wheel bolt pattern.

Having said the above, there are differences in the 9" over the years. For example, if you stay with the original chunk and go to buy a pinion seal, you will note that the later models used a much smaller outside diameter seal. Assuming this is not an issue, you can buy all of the parts as stated but you will have a problem finding the drums if they are not with the car. You will have to use Mercury or go to the smaller Ford BHC axles, drums, shoes and wheels. Of course you will either have different front and rear bolt patterns or you will have to use Ford front hubs. I don't know if the Ford hubs will bolt onto the Edsel spindles or if they will also have to be changed.

Best bet would be to contact an Edsel dealer and get what you need. You can find them in Hemmings or Google for parts.
