Edsel Confidential

Regarding the Falcon,
Its still made here in Australia, with posibly the best inline 6 engine in the world, you folks in the USA have some real nice cars ,BUT the falcon made in Australia is ONE good car,
Lawrie

Ford of Australia showed the world what the Falcon should have been after the US discontinued it in 1970. The third gen XB that Mad Max drove was my favorite.
If only they would have continued the Edsel.
I remember seeing Edsels for sale in the early 70's. I would regularly see them in the ads for around a $100 in Los Angeles. It was like no one wanted one. My dad always talked me out of buying any saying, "you'll never get parts for them."
I wish I didn't listen to him like I didn't on other things he told me.

In my country (Argentina), the Falcon´s history starts in 1961, when was imported two Falcon Standard to be checking and to be adapted to a Argentina´s roads and routes.
This job took one year. Then, was imported dissembled in parts to be assembled in local factory. In 1963 (July 15th), appear the first Falcon made in Argentina (with little differences that the original).
It was made until 1991, 30 years!!!!. Was a successful car in the Argentina´s history. Today they are seem in the roads, car of the collectors that look like new and unrestored cars used by its owners as her daily car .

1958 was a bad year for all marques, so it was certainly a bad year to introduce a new brand. Edsel could have made it if introduced at the right time.

They've all grown on me(edsels),but they were different. The other 58s Buick,Olds, etc.have not they're still ugly. The Buick limited was a lot better.I really like 60 Edsel starliners and convertibles. The 58 Mopars weren't bad,but by 60 and 61 the Plymouths were ugly.

I found a great Argentinian website dedicated to their Falcon. It's amazing how they updated the old platform for so many years.
