Edelbrock tri Carb

My type 59 flathead has an Edelbrock tricarb setup on it, with a Holley 2100 in the center and two Stromberg 97's front and rear, which are not hooked up, it was that way when I bought the car, running only on the Holley. I want to get three carbs running, should I use three matching 97's or Holley 2100's? Presently only the Holley 2100 has a choke, the 97's have had the choke baffles removed. When this is set up correctly, is there only a choke in the center carb?

I would have Uncle Max set up three 97's and run direct linkage. leave all choke butterflys in carbs, only hook up one working choke. I'm running four 97's with direct linkage on my 40 and it runs beautifull. Uncle Max is the man on 97's. Walt

I have two new 97s on a 8BA, in a Brookville 32 roadster , no fenders. It's a pretty light car so it goes pretty good. ( plenty fast for this old coot) Non progressive linkage and both chokes are wired wide open ....cranks a little but starts right up no problem. I have three new 97s on a 265 Chevy in a 32 Tudor sedan, progressive linkage with all the chokes wired open. Goes pretty good too. My vote is for three new 97s ...progressive linkage....no chokes...

You must keep the choke plates in the 97's or it will mess up the flow through the carb. See JWL's book.

If money is an object 8^) , you might try a progressive linkage with the 2 strombergs serving as secondaries.

If the engine is stock, I'd leave the 2100, which is larger than a 94 run the engine. I'd make sure the end 97's had some block off plate beneath the throttle shafts to prevent leakage. Three carbs on a Flathead really look nice but they don't run very good. Now If it's a built engine like Walt's, that's another story.
