Edelbrock 97's?

My FE engine builder (FE's, to the unintiated, are Ford's second iteration of jiggler-headed V8's.) recently told me that Edelbrock had been bought out. He said a bank in California was failing and called Edelbrock's line of credit. Edelbrock had a line for 50 million but had used only about 40m. Still, in these times, who can come up with that kind of cash? So Edelbrock, even though they were solvent and meeting their payments, succumbed to the current economic conditions. They were bought out, but the original Edelbrock family is no longer in charge. Kind of an end of an era and sad.

That said, has anybody seen the 97's that were supposed to be out in late summer? I'm fearing that the new company may pare down and the 97's might not make the cut. I've used Edelbrock carbs on a couple of Brand X V8's. They weren't my favorite carb but they worked well and were reliable. I was hoping for the same for the new 97's.

I thought Edelbrock was going to make new 94's ,or have they already made them and was going to reproduce the 97's ?I'm probably behind the times .

I'm curious too, I heard they were going to start making the Y-block intakes as well. I recieved a catalog with my Block letter 38-48 heads, but it wasn't in there.

From speedtalk.com

Edelbrock was not purchased by a German firm. Edelbrock went public a few years ago and purchased the shares back with help from a private american investment group. Vic still owns the majority of the company and has the final word on all desicions. Edelbrock is focused on the future and not in any danger of going under. These rumors have been going around for awhile now. As far as the indivudual who started this thread give me a call on the tech line and I will make sure you get the correct parts.

thanx,

Looks like they are not going anywhere.

I hope you were wrong too, Cletus. America needs more business's like Edelbrock-engineered here, cast in their own foundry, and machined here.
It ticks me off to see knock-off 4bbl. manifolds (OK, so it's Chevy stuff) sold by Summit and some other people. I just can't agree with anyone buying crap made off-shore, especially knock-offs.

In my very limited, provincial mind, Fordors, I see a lot of problems that have affected us economically originated with us, as in U.S., buying cheap offshore goods. The financial gurus tell us how good open trade has been for us. Sell that to someone from Detroit, a steel mill city in Ohio, or textile town in North Carolina. We need to start a "Buy American" campaign again. We may have less "stuff" in the end, but how much "stuff" do we really need? Just the fact that we're on this site tells me we're people who would rather preserve something that was good instead of going for the instant gratification of buying something new and disposable.

I encourage all here to buy your parts from U.S. vendors and small businesses like on this forum. Fortunately, most of the parts we need are made here in the U.S. Or were.

Enough stumping. Back to flatheads.
