Is the part # ICR40 the correct resistor for my 34 6 volt system? While I was restoring this pickup I bought the complete resistor & fuse block from Mac's when I had the car running for the first time it was outside & I kept smelling something burning, it was the resistor it became completely charred so I put the old resistor back on. I don't want another chinese junk one so would like to get one from Napa. ( the young parts guys don't have a clue) Thanks in advance.
Gary.

That resister shows its a .35 ohm
It maybe just burning off coating.
If you have ohm meter orginal was .5
if you have volt meter go across the resister running should read about 1 volt leaving 5 volts to coil.
With .5 would be 1.5 volts

Many of these repro items are not very good quality. A guy would be better off with a modern Ohmite wire wound resistor with a rating to take the heat. It would still have to be mounted on a micarta circuit board for an insualtor that can also take the heat.

You can't even go to a Radio Shack now days and get a counter person that wouldn't look at you funny. I'm just lucky that San Antonio still has at least one decent electronics component supplier left. When they're gone I'll have to order everything from a catalog at least as long as they are still around.

We have a few of the original FORD resistors in stock. I dont believe any NAPA (or other modern type parts house) is going to have that resistor. We sell them for $19.00 plus shipping.

Thanks for your response, any & all info is appreciated. If you look closely you will see that the core on this resistor is burnt in half I don't know what the material is but it sure isn't ceramic like the original. Thanks again.
Gary.

I am working on a 39 that another shop tried to get running, they replaced the resistor after they shorted the original, the repro replacement smokes --it has a core that smells of Bamboo burning instead of ceramic, I was told it came from MAC's

At Hershey I collected a lifetime supply of NOS for 3-7$ each---some with the fuse block
