ebay = rip off

If it's something you can buy local or Amazon, of course it's expensive! The value is in finding things not available anywhere else. I depended on ebay doing vintage bicycles and other hobbies where things were not available. Same now finding Model A speed parts, etc... if you just "Have To have It Now", Ebay still has it's place. It does suck the fees have gone up over the last 15 years, but so has everything else! Caveat Emptor.

This is exactly what I have always found with Ebay,finding the rare part that came out of someones attic or basement not neccesarily an experienced swap meet salesman.Forty five years of combing swap meets for parts like a 1937 ford hood locking handle. I have been able to buy two on Ebay and both were NOS buy it now and sellers who listed them were not old car people,one of the items was in the desk of a metal scrapper for 75 years according to one description,it is the one on my '37 coupe.

Some time ago, I looked for other auction sites and found a few. I recall also finding statistics for these sites and all of the other ones totaled don't amount to what e-bay does.

One other thing is Craigs List. There is a search engine for them called Search Tempest. With it you can look at the entire nation.

Ya gotta know from both a seller's side and a buyer's side what something is worth! Then ya gotta do your homework on what you will pay. On ebay, I will offer an amount, even on buy it now prices. But one thing I won't do as buyer is pay more than what I believe is the true value! Part of the problems I have found on buy it now stuff, is some folks just click on it and buy it, at a high price I would never pay. And on selling, to me Craigs list or "anything but ebay" is the way to go! Even Facebook Marketplace! I agree, "Ebay is really Looking out for Ebay and buyers"
