Ebay max bid

Have you ever heard of a SNIPER Service, like Bidnapper.com which is not expensive and shoots your bid in a zillonth of a second before the end of the auction using your maximum bid as tops.

They take all the pressure off yo, and if youare being outbid, they will warn you to up your maximum.

Glenn, you just put in the bid amount that is the max you want to bid. It will only enter enough for you to exceed other bidders and it will continue to do that until your max bid is reached.

From my past eBay bidding experience you just make your maximum bid and see how things go. Depending upon who else is bidding for the same auction item, your bid could either take the lead in bidding or fall short of some one else maximum bid.

In other words consider everyone else who is bidding has entered what their maximum bid would be for what they are willing to pay for the item.

If your maximum bid happens to take the lead, during the remainder of the auction someone else could slowly bid up to your maximum or over bid what your maximum bid was. If you're then over bid, then you have the option to once again make another bid at that time, depending upon if there is auction time left to do that.

Even with a snipe program you're still entering what your maximum bid would be and that's basically the way that things work. That's the best way that I can explain how this all works. Good luck.

Perhaps someone else can relate this bidding process a little more simple. CC

I agree with the comments about just entering your max bid from the get-go. I never believed in sniping, to me it is a non-issue. If I decide to pay $XXX for something and the bid goes to $XXX+1 then so be it. I have established what an item is worth in my own mind and if another bidder has deeper pockets then I guess he bought himself an item.
It's not eBay, but what really gets my goat is when a representative (more of a shill) of the auction house gets in the face of a bidder and urges another bid. Always seemed to me that some of the bidders at those big, promoted, and sometimes TV featured auctions have more money than brains. Some take satisfaction in having the most toys, and some have a few toys they cherish and use and really enjoy.

Another thing about max bid--if 2 bidders have the same max bid the earliest bid wins --i won a set of nos floorboards that way

If you bid before the last few seconds you are bidding against yourself. All you have done is establish a new asking price.I bid in the last 10 seconds and I am very successful !

A sinping program is the best way to bid. You don't want anyone else to know you are a bidder, until it's too late for them the type in a new bid. I win most of my items by sniping, and at lower prices. The people not using sniping programs, are losing more bids,or paying too much. Also bid in odd numbers, like $57.53 instead of $55.. Quite often just the $.53 wins the bid. If I really don't care if I win or not,and there are no bids, I may just use the E-Bay system. Auction Stealer is free for 3 bids per week.

I hardley ever place my max bid until less than one minute on the clock. The one minute is primarily due to uncertain internet connections. Most of the time I win, sometimes not.

California Charlie, I believe that you explained it quite well.

I use sniping for two reasons:

1. Often I am not at the computer during the last few seconds of an auction. With a snipe at least I get my bid in. Note: At least twice the snipe bid was not made on my behalf due to some programming glitch.

2. With a snipe no one can figure out what my maximum bid is before the end of the auction. Without a snipe, a person can just keep bidding until they have the lead.

The thing that I needed to learn is to establish a price with myself and then stick to that price. The sniper services will send an e-mail to tell you that your snipe will not cover the current bid. That is when I can get into trouble. Ego or the beer I'm drinking decides to increase the bid beyond what my rational mind established.

If you read the way ebay works, it is a sniper program. It just enters your bid when you do, then when you are outbid, it ups your bid by the minimum right up to the close of auction. i.e. I enter $50.53 with an opening of $1.00. next bidder enters $3.00. Ebay proxy bids for me to $3.50. next bidder enters $25.88. ebay proxy bids for me $26.88. I'm still winning. In the last 1sec a sniper bids $49. ebay proxy bids $49.50. I'm still winning. in the last split second another sniper enters a max bid of $50.50. Ebay won't accept the bid because it doesn't meet the minimum increase of $0.50. Another sniper enters $2000 max in the last split second. Ebay proxy bids $60.63 for them..they win. If during the course of the auction my max is exceeded, then the other guy has a max bid greater then mine and I lose.
If i used a sniper program with a max of $50.53 set to send a bid in the last split second, depending on what others have sniped my bid may or may not even show and in this case I'd still lose with a price $61 (the $50.50 snipe plus the minimum above the $50 snipe) either way I lose and with the sniper program the selling price will probably be higher....

scene 2. My max bid is $25. the opening is $10. I place my bid and ebay posts a $10 opening bid(mine). A shill, or others start bidding. You will see a number of bids with their max, and my proxy bids of their max plus $.50. Eventually someone's max is greater than mine. Ebay puts in a proxy bid for them of $25.50. If i increase my max to $28.88 then ebay will proxy bids for both of us untill there is a bid either greater then $28.88 (theirs) or $28.88(mine). Oh horrors, now everone knows my max!;) If it really is my max..so what. I lose. If it isn't my max....why did i say it was? And bid that amount? I can raise my 'max' but why? Far easier to bid your actually max, ignore the auction until over and either win or lose.

"You have to be frugal using a max bid, by that I mean don't get stupid."

So, it sounds like you think I shouldn't have paid $927.00 for that Model A key ring some years back. :D:p

I wonder if that deal really went through?

If someone just decides they don't want to pay, then there isn't much you can do about it. If they try that a few times I think ebay will ban them.

i agree your max bid should be your 'max bid'. if you over bid just 'to be sure', then get it at the 'omg whay did i bid that' price and are sick over it...you shouldn't have placed that bid. If i place a bid of $250 and it gets sniped for $251 then somebody (not me) paid too much and I'm happy. If i place a bid of $250 and get 'shilled' up to $248, I got it for less than my max..i'm happy. if the shill uses a sniper program then the results are the same. If the shill manually bids, the results are the same. By using a sniper program you turn 6 day auctions into 2 second auctions. Other than that, there is no difference in price paid.

Trust me, if you want to come out ahead,on E-bay,you Must use a sniper program. Proxy bidding ,is showing other bidders that you are in the game, and will just keep running you up. However, please keep using E-bays system, then I can steal more auctions from you.

Any of you Ebayers try an "off Ebay" offer to sellers? Most of the time I get a refusal usually by a seller who knows the worth and what final value will be. Lately I have been successfull on a couple items that seemed to be out of sellers expertise and they jumped right on my offer. I think Ebays charges are a factor also, and some will like the postal money order instead of PayPal charges.

Ok here is how I see it.

Ebay is not a traditional auction. It is an auction with a TIME LIMIT. Therefor you should not bid the same way as a traditional auction. If you have established the maximum that you are willing to bid for an item then to get the best price you must wait until just before the end to place your bid. By bidding early in the auction you are helping your competitors by giving them information.

Let us say there is an item that I am willing to pay $100 to get. There are 2 other people who are going to bid on it. One of the other guys will bid up to $90 the other guy will go to $50.

Scenario #1
Everyone bid against each other with $5 increments.

Bid #1 Me $5
Bid #2 bidder #2 $10
Bid #3 bidder #3 $15
Bid #4 Me $20
Bid #5 bidder #2 $25
Bid #6 bidder #3 $30
Bid #7 Me $40
Bid #8 bidder #2 $45
Bid #9 bidder #3 $50
Bid #10 Me $55
Bidder #3 is out because his maximum has been reached
Bid #11 bidder #2 $60
Bid #21 Me $65
Bid #13 bidder #2 $70
Bid #14 Me $75
Bid #15 bidder #2 $80
Bid #16 Me $85
Bid #17 bidder #2 $90
Bid #18 Me $95
Bidder #2 is out because his maximum has been reached

I get the item for $91. (the way Ebay works is you cost in this case is $1 above the next highest bid)

Scenario #2
Bidders #2 and #3 bid in $5 increments and I wait until the end to bid.

Bid #1 Bidder #2 $5
Bid #2 Bidder #3 $10
Bid #3 Bidder #2 $15
Bid #4 Bidder #3 $20
Bid #5 Bidder #2 $25
Bid #6 Bidder #3 $30
Bid #7 Bidder #2 $35
Bid #8 Bidder #3 $40
Bid #9 Bidder #2 $45
Bid #10 Bidder #3 $50
Bid #11 Bidder #2 $55
I wait until just before the end and then
Bid #12 Me $100

I get the item for $56 ($1 above the next highest bid)

Now, if Bidder #2 had a maximum bid of $110 then in scenario #1 I would have lost the item. In Scenario #2 I would have won the item for the same $56.

There are many other scenarios that can happen but because I have a firm maximum price that I will pay I will ALWAYS get the lowest price by waiting until just before the end of the auction to place my one any only bid.

One other thing about eBay. Sometimes the seller doesn't pick the best category to put his item in. Check different categories and look at the counter on the bottom of the page.

A couple of years ago I was looking for a truck for my speedster. I was viewing a 31-32 Chevy Victoria. He was also selling a 35 Chevy trunk and I viewed it. Went back to look at it the next day under trunks and couldn't find it. Then I went back to the 32 Chevy and I found it again. To this day I don't know how he had it listed.

PS I bought it in the last minute for the opening bid of $50 because no one else saw it.

Sorry, you won't steal any auctions from me. If you are willing to pay more than my max, you are welcome to it. Doesn't matter to me if you bid in the last 1/2 second or in the first day of the auction. If you pay more than my max..you are paying too much (as far as I'm concerned).
Yes, proxy bids will show I'm in the game..until i reach my max..then i'm not in it anymore. I place a bid at $28.88 the first day..proxy bid up to my max. It will show. Next person can bid $29.38 and 'steal' the auction. But that's 50cents more than I'm willing to pay. Didn't steal anything...just over paid.
