Ebay Idiots

Dizzy- It's what I get when I stand up too quick out from under a car.

Distributor-A device that provides spark to each cylinder.

My main gripe is the item being sold as "rat rod" quality. It appears that the item was pulled from the junk pile to sell.

"Caveat emptor" Buyer beware. But, I have to say overall eBay has been very good to me. I have sold very few items on eBay, but I am a buyer and looking evey night at my favorite sites. I have found Ford parts for my `35 that I couldn't find as easy else where and at a good price. Most Ebayers are honest as most people are honest...

So you are saying that if you ran across this for free you would not take the time to salvage the doors, dash, windshield, rear fenders, rear shocks and garnish mouldings? With someone who does this on a regular basis I would call that a lack of respect for where the parts you need really come from. As for the Ratrod it is just something you can type in and get more bids, as it is nice to be compensated for your time and efforts. not a slam to the parts or where they came from. Salvage work is never easy and a neccessary part of the hobbie. Just some thoughts. Rod

I have always called it eSlay as I've never bought a part off of that site that was ever what it was cracked up to be - so, the eSlayer strikes again! No more for me - I'll advertise/buy here, the HAMB, or perhaps Craigslist (but rarely) ....

Thread sounds like the letters in Hemmings complaining about people not listing things correctly. Nothing has changed except the medium we use to conduct the business. Or criticism as it may be. Just an observation. For the record I do agree with the above comments.

Amen Frank !!!

I too use ebay almost every day , where else could i find a 16 cylinder Nash distributor cap ( for a racing flathead ford). (last week)
I purchase distributors from ebay almost every week , the largest catalog for used parts ever.
Sure they charge fees and gasp (shipping) but thats part of doing business, i write ups some big checks every month!!:)

That is really not all that uncommon to see. I believe their logic is a wanted ad in the for sale section gets much more exposure than if it was in the wanted section where it belongs. They use the same logic when putting for sale items in the wanted section. This logic also works well for folks putting for sale or wanted ads on the discussion forum. Exposure, exposure, exposure.... that's what they want and that's what they get...never mind the actual rules spelled out by the owner of the website.

Or sometimes its a rookie mistake and the user has no way of deleting or moving the post..

That drives me crazy, they do it to get more people to see the ad. Then the bling crap that they advertise fitting a certain car . They need a new catagory for that crap! When I'm looking for something for my 50 Ford pickup, I want to see that stuff and none of the "other" crap.

Yep, do a search for 'flathead ford' and get fuel injectors for a mazda?!? 20 inch rims, xenon headlights, etc etc

I too bring up `Flathead Ford' It is several pages long, but I use picture view and bring up 35 items at a time and it doesn't take as long to view it that way. I just ignore all of the junk and look at what I want.

I never watch much TV. The news and Judge Judy is about all I watch. I love Judge Judy. Why those clowns agree to go before her is a mystery. The rest of the time I am on the computer.

Not quite true Scott....or maybe I am just seeing "Rookies" with many posts making many "Mistakes" over and over. Also, I have deleted many of my own posts so I know there is a way. I admit to never having moved a post because I know I can't...but I do know who can and anyone can contact someone here on the forum to do this. They are known as moderators and administrators.

I said that because I recently posted a Wanted ad in the For Sale section by mistake..its the first Wanted ad I've done. Too new to this to have anything to sell :D
When I saw it on the For Sale section I looked for ways to delete it, but no luck. I've been able to edit my posts with no problems.
I thought it was too trivial too bother the moderators with..I'm sure they have better things to do and more important things to worry about.
On the good side, I got at least 3 responses to my Wanted ad. :p

Maybe the people listing the "Barn Fines" on ebay are getting good
responses by doing it that way, so then they are NOT Idiots....right :D

One of the most aggrivating things on epay now is the multiple adds put on by hubcap, seatcover and steering wheel vendors. They are clearly violating the epay policy concerning descriptions, no way 32 Fords had the mdse they put under 32 Ford and you have to do a proceedure to knock their vendor name out so you can get to the real stuff.
Amen Jim, that is the worst of them all! and the newer the car you are looking at parts for, the worse it is. My wife has a 64 Corvair spyder and I had to scroll through five pages of seat covers before ever seeing a single part.
another one I hate is attaching the word Rat Rod to every antique part!!

How about RARE or original except for blah blah blah or period correct with a ZZcrate motor.

I've bought and sold on ebay. All and all it's been good to me. It's very irritating to see someone try to sell all the seat covers and junk that doesn't belong on the site. I agree there should be a seperate site for that crap. But who am I to say? Just my 2 cents

For the guys (like me) who get frustrated with a search coming back with 10,000 items here are a couple tips..

You can eliminate most of the 'new' items like fuel injectors, car covers, hubcaps, and xenon headlights by switching the auction view from 'all items' to 'auctions only'. This will take out a majority of the new crap that is only listed as a 'buy it now'. When I do a flathead search and it comes up with 13,000 hits I can reduce it to about 3,000 but using this technique. Just look for the tabs across the top of the list of items you are looking at.

Another trick is to refine your search using the (-) sign. Instead of typing 'flathead' try typing 'flathead -injectors, -xenon, -tint' and the search will eliminate any auctions that have the words preceded by the (-) sign.

I use Ebay at lest twice a day. Searching for original parts for my project and also as a seller trying to de-clutter my basement.
