Ebay Idiots

I've seen a rash of 'barn FINE' cars lately. I guess if you put the magic words in your ad you automatically can ask a fortune for your car. Too bad they don't understand the concept of FINDING a car in a barn, making it a barn FIND....ain't no such thing as "barn FINE"

Haven't noticed that one yet, but there is another I can't stand. Some use the word "Minty" to describe condition, but to me that sounds like it belongs in a mouth wash ad.

I was just looking at a 35/36 pickup that is 'all original all steel' and has fiberglass fenders. huh?

You also see a lot of parts labeled as N.O.S./N.O.R.S. that are just about worn out :)
Or....Ford part XYZ that fits 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37........etc......to 48, when it is actually a part that fits only a 34.
I sometimes send a message to a seller trying to help them correctly ID their part or let him/her know the actual year of manufacture and wind up getting a sarcastically, crappy message back basically saying mind your own _ _ _ _ _ _ _ business or I don't know what I'm talking about so buzz off. I find these kind of ads so frequently now, that I just basically expect it to be that way anymore.

Sometime I see ads for cars that are totally original, but when you read the details, it has been painted or engine rebuilt or whatever else that may have been done to it.

We used to go to Hershey years back and I put a NOS sign on used parts. I thought Nice Old Stuff was appropriate and folks would grin and buy. :D

One of the most aggrivating things on epay now is the multiple adds put on by hubcap, seatcover and steering wheel vendors. They are clearly violating the epay policy concerning descriptions, no way 32 Fords had the mdse they put under 32 Ford and you have to do a proceedure to knock their vendor name out so you can get to the real stuff.

In the early days of eBay I thought it was like a bonanza for finding parts for my old Fords that I previously could not find anywhere else, including my yearly pilgrimage to Hershey and carefully reading every line of every for sale ad in Hemmings. Occasionally I would get these eBay items at a very reasonable price. Today, I rarely even go to eBay to look at anything. I don't think many of the good/old/rare parts show up there much anymore. JMO

Thread sounds like the letters in Hemmings complaining about people not listing things correctly. Nothing has changed except the medium we use to conduct the business. Or criticism as it may be. Just an observation. For the record I do agree with the above comments.

I have bought stuff off of ebay.......but every time I do I think this place has taken all the fun out of our hobby, swap meets are usually full of ''JUNK'' theres no more rounding the corner and finding the prized part you where looking for.:( Theres something wrong with ''congratulations you won'' you paid more than anybody in the whole wide world!:confused::o

I just seen a WANTED AD in the FOR SALE section here...LOL :D.

That is really not all that uncommon to see. I believe their logic is a wanted ad in the for sale section gets much more exposure than if it was in the wanted section where it belongs. They use the same logic when putting for sale items in the wanted section. This logic also works well for folks putting for sale or wanted ads on the discussion forum. Exposure, exposure, exposure.... that's what they want and that's what they get...never mind the actual rules spelled out by the owner of the website.

A good seller will use any words that gets a costomer,If it wasn,t for Ebay a lot of these old parts would go junk.I have been selling for 12 years now sold all over the world.Buyers have no idea what its like to sell, and ***** about .39 cents.
Ebays taken the shipping prices out of seller, control a pound in 1 hundred miles,by the time it gets to state of Wash from maine its lot more.In the old days was a lot better. There was more contact with buyer you could tell by there ackcent in there wrighting, and shiiping was done at end of sale. Now must be done before listing.Still the best thing going if you want something, and don,t have to wait years to find.BUY BUY

Craig's list has some of those too. Someone here a while back coined the name "fleabay", that fit's:D

That was me. There are some legit "fleabay" sellers but when I need parts and want to buy them from the early ford "pros" I come to fordbarn. This web site is the major leagues for early ford people. "Fleabay" is for the amatures, the folks who stumbled on some parts when they bought out someone else's benie baby colletion. I don't get too concerned about fleabayers, all I need is right here on the barn, hanging out with the professionals.
