Anyone have experience selling a vehicle(model a) on ebay? If so, how does their fee system work...if the car is sold and if the car isn't sold:confused:.
FWIW..I ask this of a guy who buys/sells cars (not on ebay). He couldn't say specifically, but thot it is 'complicated'.

It gets more complicated when you sell a car no reserve and the bidder never contacts you and never pays. They eventually give you credit for a failed sale but it takes some time and effort. Then when you go to try to sell the car again it seems since it is relisted everybody thinks that there must be something wrong with it. Arrrgh !

I've sold a few motorcycles on Ebay I thought the fees were pretty reasonable (been a few years though) at the time the fees were just a little more than print ads. Don't know about re-listing as all my sales were smooth and painless

I just sold my "barn find" pickup on ebay. I took some pictures, loaded them on my 'puter and went to the ebay. Took about 10 minutes to upload the pics and write a description. It was a small listing fee, 15 cents for extra pictures and after it is sold, a final value fee. I think if it is under 2K, the fee is $60...only if it sells. Over 2k is $200. My truck ( which I had an offer of 2200 here on the barn..but he disappeared when I said yes ) sold for 3K ! Even with the fees , I still made out. The buyer paid me $100 on paypal instantly and is (supposedly) bring the 2900 cash today. I'll report on the final transaction later. It is very easy and actually pays well because of the audience you reach.

THANKS!
We will be waiting/interested in hearing final results.
So, you were 'stiffed' by someone here on the barn, but had a positive experience on ebay..hmm interesting:confused:
Now if ebayer doesn't come thru...you get to keep $100.? And, do you have to pay 'fees' if transaction doesn't go thru...or does complicate fee thing for you?

That buyer can actually say they came and looked at the car and it was not as described. Request the $100 back from paypal and they will find in his favor. Never let payment go through paypal

Interesting. So , it's that simple? Ebay doesn't contact seller to see if buyer ever looked at vehicle, etc:confused:
sonny, your last sentence is interesting. What other forms of payment does ebay accept/allow ?

They let the seller dispute it, but in the end, it is he said, she said, and they always take the side of the buyer. They think it is the sellers responsibilty to make the buyer happy. They always find in favor of the buyer. I always put in my ads that I accept paypal and all forms of payment banned by E-pay.

I don't think that there's a better way to reach the people than eBay. I put an extremely nice 31 Buick on eBay and during and at the end of the auction was contacted by a buyer in Switzerland. He didn't want to bid without seeing the car in person. To make a long story short he bought the car about 5 weeks after the auction and I didn't pay any fees.

ebay is a great selling tool with a huge audience. The problems start if the seller is not totally honest about what he is selling. If their are flaws be sure to list them. You can't blame the buyer for walking away from the deal if it is less than was advertised.

Well, I have nothing but good things to say about this sale. The young man, his father and his lovely wife came to pick up the truck Saturday. ( The truck was HER idea !!!). You couldn't meet a nicer more appreciative group of people. I spent about 3 hours with them showing them my stuff and talkin cars. They loaded it up, paid me in CASH, no paypal bite here, and went on their merry way. I advised the young man to join one of the clubs, get a Snyders catalog and of course... cruise the BARN !
I will get a bite from e-bay for the $200, but I still made more than I thought I would. Very pleased, will do it again !

They allow; direct account deposit, direct funds transfer, COD, bank cheque, personel cheque, cash on pickup, plus others. In Australia, it is illegal for ebay to deny other forms of payment other than paypal.

ANOTHER reason to love Australia:D ! Never been to Australia or New Zealand, but also never met anyone from either country who was not lovable:)
