Model A Man

I had bid on a 1929 lincoln I had my max bid at $11,000.00 and I was high bidder at $10,766.00 and it stated that the reserve had been met. yesterday someone bid $11,100.00 today it shows that the auction ended and there was 0 bids and reserve was not met but when i was bidding the orig auction was not suppose to end until 10 27 2010. I am guessing that the owner out bid me and ended the auction early. anyone else have this happen to them

Someone offered the seller something like $16k to end the auction early, or the car was for sale locally and someone came to buy it and they canceled the auction. That is probably what happened.

I think any seller can end the auction for whatever reason up to 12 hours before ending time.

I have had this happen to me a lot.

They just pay the listing fee and a reserve fee, and if they get lucky and the reserve is met before the 12 hour deadline, they even don't pay that.

They just fish and hope to get heaps of emails and questions and leads and sell it privately.

I went to Inspect a Model A listed on e-bay,when I got there Someone was there from out of state with a car trailer. He was working the Seller over pretty good. The Guy just showed up.
Anyway the seller told him to Hit the Road. 2 Days later the car was mine.

Lol , in OZ , we tell them a bit different.

Here's a story I promised myself I'd never tell on this forum, but here goes! A couple of years ago I bid on a cabriolet. It was a beautiful car but I lost the bid. Then I got a
notification that the person who bought the car backed out of the deal and that I could have the car for ONLY 14,000 smackers. I was elated! It all loooked so official
and I RUSHED down to Walmart to the "moneygram" section and wired 14 grand plus
about 400 bucks for money transfer fees and waited for further instruction. I don't have to tell you which fool and his money were soon parted......sighhhh. So, before you feel sorry for yourself for losing out on an Ebay deal--------think of me.

Ya Tracy. He most likly took someones outside offer and ended it early. I has seen this happen a few times before. My friend put a 54 chevy on there twice. It went to 8800.00 but did not make reserve. A guy emailed him and made an offer of 11,000.00 which was more than his reserve was. I guess you can tell that he sold it. Mark.

Jack, dont feel bad. Well try not to feel to bad. My brother in law did the same thing on a Mustang that he wanted really bad. !7,000.00 gone. Never saw the car or his money. Mark.

While most will probably agree ending early is not the right thing to do,behind closed doors with nobody looking how many are willing to take thousands out of their pockets to do the right thing? I used to advertise subject to local sale, and once I pulled a motorcycle when somebody made a big offer to end the auction. He had looked at the bike, and when he saw it on ebay he figured he had better get on the stick or lose it.I didn't put it on there to nudge him along,I just thought he had no interest and gave ebay a try.I have not had good luck with ebay selling cars or bikes. It brings the nutjobs out of the woodwork.I listed an early low mile Sportster,no foreign sales, subject to local sale, and I would palletize and take to the nearest truck terminal. The winner turned out to be from Japan, and he wanted me to drop the bike in LaHabra California to ship over to him.He said somebody would handle it from there. His payment was prompt, good international money orders,he understood he would have to wait until they cleared,I was ready to drop the bike at Yellow Freight, about 35 miles from me when he told me he wanted it in LaHabra.I told him LaHabra was 3500 miles from me,and he felt I could throw it in a truck and haul it there.I sold a 28 RPU to a guy in N.J.and he mailed out a check. No problem,it stays here until the check clears. He arrives here before the check does with a buddy to drive it home.He thought he was going to drive it home on my plates and insurance from N.H. to N.J.He left here pretty mad and the check never did show up.There is no way he intercepted that check in the mail,he just never sent it.

Good stories.

Last 2 bikes I sold were on ebay cash only on pickup.

I said no bank cheques, they can be forged ... cash only.

I said, if you want to go for a test ride, leave full cash price on table.

If you don't come back or damage bike, it's yours.

Both buyers bought bikes and praised me on ebay.

So, it takes all sorts in this world.

Same thing happened to me but with a Yamaha Rhino, I think it was about $3800. Lesson learned, never wire money via Western Union or your bank to anyone for anything you buy off the internet

You guys are making me feel better all the time. And I only lost $600.00. I think when you find a "DEAl", your mind won't let you think anything but good thoughts. Thats when greed takes over and common sense goes out the window. When it sounds too good to be true, you better at least think about it. Oh well, life goes on.

Not ebay or even model A so I hope I am not in jail OT.

A few years ago, was shopping locally , a real rough dude with tats was right after me in line.

Next day, could not find wallet, only thing could have been, left it on counter, I had $1500 cash in it.

Raced to store, I know manageress personally, they checked receipt on computer, asked checkout chick, she found no lost wallet.

I said of the bad dude right after me in line.

This store has a loyalty card which swipes with purchase.

Luckily, this bad dude had a card too, the manager's face frowned when she saw the name on card, he said " he is one of the local rebels, you know!

(Rebels are a motorcycle gang chapter).

What could I do, what could i do!.

So, I brooded for months, lost money, and every credit card. car/boat/firearms license, all had to be cancelled and renewed.

About 6 months later, I moved my bed over, and there was my sheepskin ugg boots, pulled them out, and what was inside?

MY LOST WALLET.

I thought all my christmasses had come at once.

The facts of life on ebay

In my experience anything goes on ebay. If the auction ends the seller can change his mind and not sell. If an auction ends and the buyer decides not to buy, tough luck and no recourse, the seller has to list again. Ebay won't get involved in either situation. Ebay's suggestion that the sale is legally binding is quite a laugh. Sure it is, YOU can sue to enforce the auction.

I sold a bicycle for $1,000. The seller changed his mind and wouldn't pay. Ebay suggested I re-list the item. There must be a willing buyer and a willing seller. Ebay is about collecting fees, not buyer/seller satisfaction.

If you pay by Paypal and the seller misrepresents the item, you can get your money back, I've done it, and Paypal won't argue with the buyer. That is the only protection in the ebay world. Buyer beware! Send a money order or a personal check and the seller misrepresents, then TS for the buyer.

I wish someone could prove me wrong!

Yes, anyone can do anything on ebay.

It is just that ebay says within 12 hours of ending , the auction must continue.

Not a hope of enforcing nothing in reality.

As a seller, the only ramification of doing a shifty is getting a negative feedback.

I believe sellers cannot give buyers negative, if they do a shifty on them.

I reckon that is a scam, that ebay can refund the buyer's money for any BS reason, and the buyer keeps the goods as well.

I am not sure how paypal does this, one would think there would have to be funds in the paypal account , for ebay to take back.

LOL-- At least I'm not alone on past stuff with e-bay. I almost feel good that I have only bought some junk when I thought it was something of a good deal. I usually send $1000 via paypal and pay rest in cash when I pick it up. It sounds like he was offered x price for the car without further action. Most of the time, the last 10 minutes or so will add 20% or more to the price.

Old saying, If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is!

D

Paypal puts a freeze on your account then if you dont pay they suspend your account. They can also hit your bank account for the fees. They have all of that info in their records. They suck.
