Easy Steer

I’m fixing to replace steering arms on my AA truck with ones with new balls welded on. Should I replace the stock type metal cups in tie rods and drag link with the teflon kit? Does it improve steering? Does the teflon wear well?

When I rebuilt the steering on my Tudor a few years ago I went with the Teflon kit. All I can say is after the rebuild it was a huge difference! I think the Teflon was worth using.

The Teflon will wear in preference to the balls. The Teflon is easier to replace than the balls.

And face it - they won't last as long as the original metal cups - but they're SO cheap and easy to replace. Buy three sets and you're covered for the rest of YOUR life.

Being a good custodian means leaving it so that those who go beyond you will have it easy to keep it up, and be more likely to do so.

Hello , put the Teflon inserts on my 31 when restoring the front axle. I agree with the above posts , easily to replace them than steering arms !

I like your approach to being a good custodian.

Enjoy.

Whenever you work on the tie rod, always adjust your toe-in afterwards. I have seen brand new tires scrubbed bald in 200 miles with the wrong toe-in. This is also true if you make any changes to the caster, like working on where the wishbone attached to the bottom of the engine. Because of the camber, changes in the caster will effect the toe-in. Geometry 101.

Good point about adjusting alignment. Being old school mechanics we tend to think that’s obvious but I guess some younger folks might not know.
