Early V8 engine and transmission.

Is there any early V8 engine and transmission that would fit in a 30 Model A Sedan without any major modifications?

About any year flathead V8 and transmission will fit in a Model A. 46-48 engines usually are easier. All require extensive modification. New engine and transmission mounts, clutch and brake pedals, better brakes for higher speeds and a host of other things.

This book outlines building an AV8. You do not have to do everything in the book, but it tells the basics you need to know.If you are interested,I would recommend the book.

I used a 46 in my 1928. The 30-31s have a little more room than the 28-29s. Ed

The original Bishop/Tardel book uses the 59 series engine for the compactness of the frontal accessories and allowed them to more easily use a belt driven mechanical fan. I've heard that there is a newer 3rd edition out now but haven't checked it out. The 8BA frontal accessories have a bit more length in the water pump sheaves to clear the more modern distributor used so this can be more difficult when you are fighting for space in that area.

A V8-60 Fits OK in there but it has less potential than a hopped up B motor. The 60 works OK in very small light weight type cars like the old midget racers.
