EARLY CHRISTMAS motor question?

Wow! Nice body on that 35' Those rear wheels look like model A wheels, Haha! Good luck with the motor.

Personally, I've never seen white plastiguage. I bet someone used white grease for assembly lube and it dried out. Try carefully cleaning cleaning a few parts with a petroleum based solvent and see what happens.

Without a picture is would be hard to tell. I've heard of leather tongues cut out of old shoes put into Model A rod caps but the V8 is built a bit different. The early ones have babbitt metal bearings on the mains but the rods should have the floater bearings similar to the later ones except for flanges on the edges. The cam bearings should be the conventional type if it's later than the ones with no bearings at all.

If delron, teflon, or nylon plastic strips were put in there it would be the first time I've heard of it. That sort of sounds like the shoe leather but with a modern twist.

I've heard them call the bearing metal "white metal" but those things are really white. It's almost like they are painted but they sure look like the right size & shape to be the correct bearings. The one cam bearing that I can see in there looks like it is protruding from the bore a bit more than normal too.

Most bearings are a steel shell with babbitt or soft metals like copper layered on there in real thin layers. If a magnet will stick then it is likely just the color of the bearing material. Unless someone painted them or something to that effect. The pictures aren't bad but I can't make it it out visually well enough to be certain.

Went a step farther and took the bearing out for closer inspection. IT IS PLASTIC The magnet does not stick.

Maybe the ad should have said, "Rebuilt engine ready to remove plastic inserts and replace with REAL bearings". Hope someone gets to the bottom of it. Pun not intended. lol

Rancho, I took a look at those pictures and I have never seen bearings that look anything like those. When you find out more about them, please post some follow up information for us. I'm really glad you decided to look at the internals of this engine before attempting to run it.

Got the low down on the plastic bearings. Called the previous owner , selling this project . According to him, his brother had a plastic injection molding co.
So 15 yrs. ago they made the bearings, installed them must of ran the motor for a short while, and shut it down. The paint inside the head didn't get burned off.
