I remember seeing lots of those when I was little.I was never in a car seat,we just didn't have them.I do remember doing chin ups on the dash rail of an A so I could see where we were going. The A pickup was owned by either my father, uncle,or grandfather. We used the same driveway, and the truck was used by all to go to the dump, store, and oil company to get kerosene for our stoves.

The contours and the vegetation suggest it may be near a beach.

The sand at the beach gets hot also. We never wore shoes growing up in Hermosa Beach, CA.

I never remember car seats, shoot my Dad used to let us sit on the open tailgate of his '55 Ford Ranchwagon!

Things are just a "little" different now...

The car seat I rode in had a thin cotton “seat belt”, a metal tray in front, a play steering wheel with a thin strip of steel pivoting on a rivet as a turn signal. Thank goodness we were never in a crash.
