Early 33 Oilpump/Pressure

Hi Guys
I'm working on a early 33 engine and found this Oil Pump & Pan setup - is that normal for a early 33 engine? (I write early because I have separate engine mounts and water inlets).

Also, how/where can I, when finished with the engine, mount a Oil pressure gauge so I can keep an eye on the Oil pressure?

What should the pressure show if it is possible to install a Oil pressure meter?

That's an original oil pump and intake tube (second photo) for all '32-'34 V-8s (except very early '32s which had no tube). An oil pressure gauge (electrical or mechanical) can be attached at either of the plugged holes just forward of the bell housing on the left side of the engine block right above where the oil pump inserts into the engine block. The range of pressure registered will depend on the condition of the bearings in the engine, but would normally be from about 15 pounds at idle to 30 pounds at highway speeds.

Hi David
Thx. I'll keep it the original way even I have been looking for resto parts but all I find is for newer pump type. Also I have been looking for replacement pan as it has some dents.

For the gauge I just found a Mechanical at Speedway's with range 0 - 50. Think I'll order one w. Tube kit.

You can rebuild the original oil pump with new bushings, shaft, gears and have the lower cover machined flat to remove wear on the gear side. The pans are somewhat hard to find in excellent condition, you may want to consider some metal work to straighten out the dents. The inner baffle pan does just pull out.

A good 33 oil pump will put out 90 lbs pressure on a test fixture. Engine pressure is then determined by clearance of parts leaking oil, the pressure relief valve and gear and end clearance in the pump. G.M.
