Early 32 Ford Steady rods.

Sheldon,

You're right, they're not the top version, but rather the second from the top. Those are not all that rare, unlike the type at the top. I guess I need new glasses. I would think that those on ebay will join the long list of overpriced '32 items with no bidders when the auction closes.

Thanks for the correction.

Dave

Pete,

They are a pair of the second (and last) type of brackets for steady rods used with "flange" blocks when the rods were moved inward (and the B and V-8 steady rods no longer shared the same attachment point on the center cross members). The are shown attached in the period display engine photo below.

Not to sidetrack the thread but, a buddy of mine bought some on Ebay and when he moved and finally sorted some of his stash out he found had he bought 6 sets over the years.

David:
Beautiful Phaeton and thanks for the very interesting information. I have been looking for the body # but can't find any trace of one. I have 8 32's here and can't find it on any of them, so must be looking in the wrong spot. Is it stamped in the cross brace or on a plate?
Chisel

Chisel,

If it exists on a phaeton, it would be stamped directly into the first floor cross sill on the left side. U.S. Phaeton, roadster, standard coupe, sport coupe, and most sedan bodies were manufactured by Ford during the '32 model year, including those destined to be exported such as yours, did not have separate body number plates. The practice of numbering them seems to have varied widely by assembly plant.

Those bodies built by third parties (Murray and Briggs) has separate body number plates riveted to the first floor cross sill, but on the right side.

You've sure got "stuff" and pretty neat "stuff" at that.

What are the lengths of 32 steady rods are all V8 the same length are 4 cylinder the same length the V8 rods look like they are different length in the pictures Thanks Jack

Jack,

All four of the rods shown in the photo are different lengths. Unfortunately I'm away from my "stuff" until next month so I'm unable to provide the requested lengths.

The top three rods are for V-8s and the bottom one is for a Model B. I do recall the diameters of the rods which are 1/2" for the top one and 7/16" for the other three.
