early 30 pickup

Is it possible that a "new" style pick-up 1930 body was manufactured on a 28-29 style frame?
Not likely, usually the other way around, the 29 style cab on the early 30 frame. There were factory shims made thicker for the 29 radiator on the 30 frame.

If i understand this completely, There was a 29 style cab used on early 30 frame? My 29 style cab has a quarter turn type gas cap which i was lead to believe a late 29 cab maybe used on a 30 frame its quiet a mix up anyway. Could this be because they were trying to use up all the left over parts? Thanks Steve.

Yes. Ford was frugal, and this was the beginning of the First Depression, so they were looking to cut where they could.

As I said, the new models were not introduced until June. Maybe I should included that Ford continued full production of commercial models at a high rate which included producing the the current (early type) bodies. The frames were the "new" frame on all vehicles by November 1929. For commercial models (which retained the '29 type radiator), the radiator required steel shims under the radiator mounts with corresponding longer bolts to compensate for the change in the front cross member.

It's my best estimate that the introduction of the gas tanks using the new cap (commercial bodies) was mid-late April 1930.
