Hi folks
Can someone help me with the removal of this gear I just cant see how to get it off, there is a small wedge in the spline which I think might need to be driven out but I am not sure.
Thanks
Brendan

Nothing needs driving out. (this is from memory so someone correct me if I am wrong) Rotate the gear until the oil hole is over the thing you call a small wedge. Poke something down the hole to depress a small plunger that locates in a hole in the "wedge". You will then be able to slide the wedge out, and then rotate the thrust washer to align with the splines and it will all come apart. Keep an eye open for the plunger and spring.

Mart.

Yep, that gear removal had me scratching my head many years ago after I tore up my first early Ford transmission. The release hole for the spring loaded pin is in about the center of second gear, lengthwise on the teeth. Align this hole over the wedge as Mart said. I use a hardened steel pin about 1/16" in diameter to depress the spring loaded pin down into the shaft. When the pin is below the wedge, you can start pushing on one end of the wedge until it is stopped by your pusher pin. Then remove your pusher pin and push the wedge completely out from under the second gear. Then you can move second gear on the shaft to where it will slide off the splines. Watch for the spring loaded pin and spring to fly out, but make sure you have your safety glasses on. This is also from my memory which is begining to dim a bit, so if someone else wants to correct me, or futher direct you on how to do this....please do :)
